Actually, the valve generally is the culprit as far as "shooting through" goes. Unfortunately, this event generally damages the cylinder head, valvetrain, and the lower part of the engine (piston at very least). You would be well advised to source another complete engine from a reputable auto wrecker (believe it or not, there are such animals). This will yield the lowest labour and parts cost. It will still be expensive unfortunately, although you could save 50% over the cost of repairing your damaged engine. At any rate, most shops won't want to repair an engine damaged in this manner and would prefer to install a good used engine. Any used engine that uses timing belts should have them replaced as a matter of course prior to installing in the car.

Yes you, can have it torn apart. Really all that has to be done is the cylinder head removed for inspection. If the engine truly has swallowed a valve, you must understand that the engine would have to come virtually apart for repair. This, plus the R&R labour, makes a good used engine a better deal. Good luck.

I think you have this backwards, but in any event yes it can be fixed but it requires a tear down of the engine to replace the parts.,
