SOURCE: Brake drum 2005 Escape

here is a diagram on how to remove your brake drum. please do not forget to rate and comment about your experience with fixya today.

Removal & Installation
CAUTION Dust and dirt accumulating on brake parts during normal use may contain asbestos fibers from production or aftermarket brake linings. Breathing excessive concentrations of asbestos fibers can cause serious bodily harm. Exercise care when servicing brake parts. Do not sand or grind brake lining unless equipment used is designed to contain the dust residue. Do not clean brake parts with compressed air or by dry brushing. Cleaning should be done by dampening the brake components with a fine mist of water, then wiping the brake components clean with a dampened cloth. Dispose of cloth and all residue containing asbestos fibers in an impermeable container with the appropriate label. Follow practices prescribed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the handling, processing, and disposing of dust or debris that may contain asbestos fibers.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.

CAUTION Use of a brake drum puller or a torch is not recommended. Brake drum distortion can result.

NOTE If the brake drum is rusted to the axle shaft pilot diameter, tap the center of the brake drum between the wheel studs.
  3. Remove the brake drum.
  4. If equipped, remove the brake drum retaining clips.
  5. If the brake drums will not come off, follow these steps.
  6. Move the brake shoe adjusting lever off the brake adjuster screw.
  7. Loosen the brake shoe adjuster screw nut by adjusting the nut upward.
  8. Using the special tool, 134-R0191, measure the brake drum inside diameter.
  9. Install a new brake drum if the maximum inside diameter exceeds the specification shown on the outside of the brake drum.

To install:

WARNING Whenever a wheel is installed, always remove any corrosion, dirt or foreign material present on the mounting surfaces of the wheel or the surface of the wheel hub, brake drum or brake disc that contacts the wheel. Installing wheels without correct metal-to-metal contact at the wheel mounting surfaces can cause the wheel nuts to loosen and the wheel to come off while the vehicle is in motion, causing loss of control. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

  1. Clean the wheel hub mounting surface and wheel pilot.
  2. Install the tire and wheel assembly.

Is it hex (like an allen screw) or is it a Torx or Torx plus? Torx are serrated.

SOURCE: Changing plugs and power steering pump on an escape

I have a 2002 Escape V6 w/ 100,000 miles and I just changed the plugs. If you have a V6, you will have to remove the Upper Intake manifold. It's not too bad. You'll new a gasket set from Autozone or NAPA for about $10

I have a 2005 ford escape. when its very cold, my power steering hose comes off and leaks alll the fluid out. This is the 3rd time it has happened. Suggestions?

Change the hose and both hose connections. The hose since it is 6 years old is very soft because of the fluid. Try to get a better quality hose at the parts store. Hope this will work for you and thanks for using FixYa

Power steering fluid for a ford escape 2003 2.0

AIR IN THE PUMP CAN CAUSE NOISE AND FRICTION DURING TURNING. AN OPTION IS TO ASK YOUR MECHANIC TO BLEED THE POWER STEERING IN ORDER TO REMOVE THE AIR. THIS WILL DEFINITELY SOLVE THE PROBLEM AS LONG AS THE POWER STEERING PUMP IS FUNCTIONING OPTIMALLY

POWER STEERING OIL LEAK

You must find the leak first. There a few places it could be leaking. It could out of the ends of the steering rack, power steering pump seal, lines, or the back of the pump. You may need snap ring pliers to remove the pulley off of the power steering pump.

I have a 2005 ford escape.I do not have power steering. I checked the power steering fluid and it is ok. What else might be the problem?

check the belt to make sure it is tight and if it is tight either the pump is out or the rack is bad
