2003 Honda Civic Ex I have a problem with my

2003 Honda Civic Ex
I have a problem with my shifting, when Im in a complete stop the car shifts into gears easily, when im in motion I shift into first easily, but shift into 2nd it is tough sometimes and 3, 4th are easy. also I cant down shift from 3rd into 2nd nor 1st. I kind ofhave to play around with it by wiggling and then forcing to get into the gears. I bought the car with 82k miles on it, so it has been four months now that I have it. I noticed it got worse when it gets cold out here in New England

Any idea what it can be? Please help!

Thanks,
Edwin

Could be a cable problem
I suspect an engine mount problem allowing misalignment of the cable making the shifting difficult
take it to an accredited service center for a proper diagnosis and quote

There is a linkage comprising of two cables with fittings in each end that have plastic bushes and washers. Either the bushes are worn to excess or they are OK, and should be at this mileage unless abused, and its just a matter of getting a garage or good home mechanic to set the cable adjustment according to the manual.

Change out the transmission lube use a full synthetic fluid that is less prone to cause this type of cold related shift issues.

you need to replace clutch pack for that gear can be ordered seperately from parts store or dealer if you want to save money call peach street auto recycling at 1800-365-2341 for a warrantied used one! also might be time for change trans filter and fluid filter could be slightly clogged but I lean towards clutch pack I replace these alot on Hondas

SOURCE: 92 Honda Accord, 5 speed, hard shifting into first & second gear.

First thing to do,try to pump your clutch before you shift into 1st gear then if you feel makes better, most probably you have problem with your hydraulic clutch system, check the clutch line if there is an evidence of fluid leaking or it could be internal leak.

Second thing to do, check your transmission oil, may be it' s too old or you use a thick oil thats why when cold its hard to shift then when the engine rich the normal temperature(warm) the oil become thin and the shifting will smooth. Remember the very old oil become thicken and the purity is gone and can cause of hard shifting. in this regards i suggest you to change the transmission oil and check the used oil if there is small peace of metals, then you are in big trouble,

SOURCE: Rough shifting automatic transmission on Honda Accord from 1st to 2nd gear

it has a problem with the second gear drum it cracks and does not fully engauge the n shifts to 3rd ..many honda owners also learn the 8 bucks a quart is the only fluid to pour in a honda..but remember 3 qaurts per drain and fill the tranny holds 7q ....it will take a case to do a drain flush...a high pressure flush will ruin a automatic tranny with alot of miles or metal deposits floating around inside..DRAIN AND FILL 3 QUARTS AT A TIME NO GASKET NEEDED ITS BUILT AND DESIGNED LIKE A MANUAL TRANNY

SOURCE: the engine rpms rev when shifting

Your trans is slipping, u are going to need to have it checked out at a trans shop, they will test drive it in most cases for free and report what they think is wrong or recommend more diagnostic work if they are unsure..

Shift lock release honda civic 2008

Most likely you have a problem with the shift interlock solenoid located under the shifter. It gets its signal from the brake switch every time its pressed. If your brake lights come on when brake pedal is pressed, then you can assume the brake switch is o.k.

97 civic ex auto with 40k miles. Under slow acceleration, upshifts are 'lazy' with engine speeding up for a few 'moments' before shift is completed. More brisk acceleration delivers better or normal...

A '97 with only 40k ? Wow ! Sounds like a transmission issue. I would begin with changing the transmission fluid and filter. If that didn't work, I'd take it to a transmission shop because there isn't much you can do on your own with a transmission due to their inherent complexity.

Would need more info on the heat/ac problem. But on the shifting problem check under the hood and make sure when the shifter is moved the linkage moves. If not the shift cable is most likely the problem, but check at the shifter to make sure.
