1998 Chevy Lumina, 166,000 miles Was sometime making a bad squealing sound when backing up. Took to Sears for brake inspection, they fixed rotors and brakes, problem still, took back to them. Now they said they cleaned and tightened them up. Still sometimes hear same problem. Last time I back the car out of driveway didn't hear that particular sound but a funny metal sound. It scared me, haven't driven it since. I may try to move it today.

Have they checked the wheel bearings? If they have changed the brakes, I would assume they would know enough to check them. Can you do it with someone around so you can pinpoint if it's coming from the front or the rear wheels? Maybe they changed the brakes and rotors on the front end and it's the rear brakes that are the problem. Might also be the velocity joints in the shaft that goes from the transmission out to the front wheels, but they should have know better to check them as well. Good Luck

Your rear brakes set your emergency brake system, to the proper required settings, your e brake system sounds to be the problem, the brake shop is liabl for this so bring it to a dealer and hav it serviced properly, you are having mechanics "pull the wool over it" basicially your being screwed, go back to sears and speak with a manager before having the dcar fixed properly.

Bear tracker squealing noise when trying to start after running it goes away help please it sat for a year before got rear end fixed

Joe, do you mean a bearing track?
If so, a bearing -or track - usually makes a grinding or knocking noise, not a squealing noise.

If a car stands for a long time the brake rotors can corrode a bit and the pads can stick. Sometimes, when the car is first used after standing, you may hear a rubbing or squealing noise from the wheel. That's the pads sticking to a rusty rotor. The noise may wear off after a few miles when the pads 'polish' the corrosion off the rotor.

The other thing that causes squealing from a wheel are the brake shims. Try cleaning things first.

After a couple visits to our local mechanics for brakes repair of a 2006 chevy siverado short bed reg cab. My rear brakes are the problem first the mechanics changed them out with premium pad then now...

Make sure the mechanic checked the park brake shoes inside the rear rotors, they quite often break away from the lining and get wedged in the rotor, sometimes causing a constant squeal noise. I've also seen the brake pad anti-rattle metal clips become loose and wander in the caliper bracket, they lightly rub against the rotor and cause a squealing noise similar to worn brake pads. They are also very bad for the backing plates rusting out prematurely and rubbing on the inside of the rotor. Other than that he can just try to champher the edges of both front and rear pads to help dissipate the brake dust, from collecting and causing squeak noises.

Brake squeal

You, Probably will, Brake Squeal is NOT a new problem.
Disc brake's have been Squealing since, They, became
factory installed on chevrolet in 1971. Before, that they,
were a option. In 72 they even had a bulleton how, to
FIX it. And, no it didn't work.
With That said, Any time you replace Brake pads you,
should always re-surface the Rotors.
Why? First you may start to notice a pulsation as the
pads ware (sometimes! ) The best way to avoid, brake
squeal is to manchine the Rotors put, the blue membrain
sealent on the back side of the pads. And hope that works!!
Some brakes Pads squeal JUST SQUEAL??
You, Could do the same Brake job the same as you did
this one and, they may NOT Squeal.WHY, I WISH I NEW. They
sell all types of STUFF to stop Brake noice DON'T waste your $$.

Rear brakes screeches

you will be needing to replace the brake pads very soon. the pads have a metal tab mounted to them that will actually make contact with the brake rotor when the pads wear to a certain point...this makes a loud screech everytime you brake, and sometimes when you dont, to let the driver know that the brake pads are worn out.

have your brakes checked. the squeling noise is probably the rotors coming in contact with the wear stud on the pads.

I have a 2008 Honda LXP purchased Novemebr 2008. It has 21000 miles on the clock. From and since 15,000 miles I heard a grinding sound when I applied the brakes after the car was stationary for over 10...

from my experience its sounds like ur front rotors may need resurfaceing...if ur doing that...may as well replace the brakes on the front as well...sometimes glazed front brake pads may make a sound but never heard of it as a grind, usually its a squeal...have ur dealer check ur rotors for hot spots in which u would need them replaced if they are overheated..also check the front pads for cracked brake pad material

2005 Dodge Durango Front Brake Squeal

Did you buy factory pads or get cheap aftermarket pads? If aftermarket did you get the ceramic? The cheap aftermarket ones tend to squeal pretty bad. Like the last comment on here, you should have your rotors turned whenever you change the pads.

Front end noise

Sounds like rust build up on the rotors, this is a common problem with after market rotors,or it is a squealer tab and they squeal to warn you before damage is done to the rotors when brake pads are 2/3 worn down.have a brake inspection done.

When backing up and sometimes turning right my brakes(?) make a squealing sound. Almost as though a pebble is caught and grinding on something. Honda 2004 accord-50.000miles. I was told I needed new brakes...

Your rear brake pads are most likely worn to the wear indicator which can make a high pitch squealing noise. It is very common that it will squeal when backing up, but not when applying the brakes. 50,000 miles is about the average life for rear brake pads on your car.
