My car did same thing and sat for months until my husband checked the fuses and that was it! changed the fuse and no problems in over a year
Could be alot of things. alternator, wiring, clogged fuel filter/ injectors, and alot more.
What year model?
Always be suspect of the fuel pump nowadays. Get in the car, turn the key on, but not to start. Listen quietly for the fuel pump.
If fuel injected, just because there is fuel in the fuel rail is no indication the fuel pump is good. Injectors need at least 30 psi (sometimes more) fuel pressure, to operate correctly.
SOURCE: have a 1996 ford aspire.
If it has spark squirt starting fluid in the air cleaner and try starting. If starts then fuel delivery sytstem needs help. Are the plug wires right order?
