Can not open the hood on a 2009 sierra with the hood latch

Try applying penetrating oil (WD 40) to the latch. Have somebody pull the cable open while you shake the hood by trying to move it up and down.

Replace the hood latch. But look first. it could be sensor mounted to the latch that can be replaced. I work on too many to remember. Chevy's to Mercedes. I just look at them and know.

The factory hood ajar switch is integrated into the factory hood latch.
It is a 3 wire connector with Pink/Black (A), Purple (B), and Black (C) wires in it.
Wires A and B are signal wires from the BCM, Wire C is the ground.

Greg, the spring in latch release is weak or broken probably or it is still seized and lubricant still has to be worked into it. You can probably get a replacement fairly cheap at auto recyclers.

Not good. Best you take it to the dealer and have them release the latch for you. You will just waste your time trying to get to the latch as the space is so tight under the hood, you can't get there.

the cable coming off the handle under the dash is common.

my hood lock is broken, the one on the hood not the latch in the car, on my 2009 Chevy equinox. how do I fix it

see if the cable is working or have someone press down or bump the hood while you try an open it,the hood only consists of your cable and latch so it has to be one of them.

with drivers door open you standing pull lever and slap the hood with your other hand .. ya i know it sound stupid i have used this trick thousand of times. one more if ya got a tuff one it takes 2 guys one to pull the lever and in front of the hood just above the latch slap it quick ..ta da

You can temporarily fix this if this solution will work:
disassemble the hood release in the cabin and pull the cable until the hood latch opens. Then you can remove or adjust the cable as necessary.
