1999 Cadillac Deville - How to replace fuel pump? Fuse is OK and fuel pump does not run. Is fuel pump accessible through trunk or must you drop tank? Thanks in advance for your help.

Modular fuel sender assembly is located at the top of the gas tank and is accessible via a fuel sender access panel bolted to the floor inside the trunk. Be sure to follow all safety precautions when working around this tank, and be sure you know how to disconnect the fuel line quick-connectors.

He want's directions on cutting a hole in the trunk to get at the fuel pump > Wouldn't advise that , puncture the tank ! Just drop the tank out >

Pretty sure you have to drop the tank to replace pump. In later years, makers began putting access panels under the rear seat or trunk area to access the fuel pump assembly, without removing the gas tank.

Pull up the carpet and pad in the trunk to see if there is an access cover. If not then you'll have to drop the tank.

there is an off chance that you have a service access panel in the trunk under the liner. if not you have to drop the tank in order to pull out the pump. on a car that old replace the fuel sender while you are in there in order to save duplicate labor.

Probably not, I am not aware of any GM vehicles over the past several years that you don't need to drop the fuel tank out of it to replace the fuel pump. My best advise is make sure the fuel tank is empty or nearly so and let it down slowly with a floor jack so you don't break and fuel lines or wires.

I would purchase and install an electric fuel pump or have one installed. Simple to install, attach to side of car, place in fuel ine and place black wire to battery, only problem, the pump starts pumping immediately when engine is turned on and in case of an accident, it will not shut off as long as the motor is running.

First, obviously, put gas back in the tank.

Check the fuel pump fuse, (20 amp yellow fuse in the lower left corner of the group). If that is not blown, turn the key on and pound hard on the bottom of the fuel tank. The fuel lubricates the fuel pump, once it runs dry, the pump can lock up. Once the pump is immersed in fuel again, a sharp jolt will unstick it and let it pump up to pressure again. If it locks up for too long, the pump will burn out and need replaced.

We found this out by accident, got mad and pounded on the bottom of the tank and the pump jumped to life.

Unfortunately you do have to remove the fuel tank to change the fuel pump on your deville.Good Luck!!!
