First thing, Did you spill any? Take a hose and wash off the area to make sure it is still not around. if that fixes it, you are messy. (haha)
Second thing, Is there any coolant or wet spots on the driveway and is your rad having to be topped up periodically? If yes, you have a leak.
One way to help you determine where the leak is, look where your wet spot is. That will tell you the approximate area the cooling system is leaking from.
Check the cooling system parts around there(directly above the wet spot) and you will probably see your leak.
If not, go to a garage or somewhere like Napa and get them to pressure test your cooling system.
If you
don't see a leak and you are losing a/f, then the leak might be internal( a headgasket). cheers and good luck

I have a 2001 dakota that is overheating. put in new thermostat, didnt help. put in new water pump, still overheating. finally replaced the radiator. still is overheating. what else can I do to fix it

Sometimes when you open cooling system, air gets in, it can cause problems with temp gage.
How hot does it get in degrees F? Is the coolant boiling over? Are you losing coolant? Use a non-contact infra red temp gun to take engine temp, At least we will have a degrees F reading. Most temp gages say hi or lo, cold or hot. I don't know about yours?
Can you check for combustion gases in the coolant?

Overheating impala

What you are describing is a lack of coolant flow in the engine or radiator, or lack of air flow thru the radiator.
If you are sure the coolant level is ok, and flow is good, I would check for a restriction in air flow thru the condenser and radiator.

My s 430 has smoke coming from under hood after driving but not all the time temp gauage reads normal. I had oil and trans leaks sealed but it is still happening, what else could it be? Thanks

SMOKE UNDER HOOD COULD BE COOLANT LEAK FROM RADIATOR ITSELF OR CHECK FOR LEAKING TOP RADIATOR HOSE AND CHECK FOR LEAKING BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSE.LOOK UNDER THE HOOD IF COOLANT BOILING OUT COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG ENGINE OVERHEATING FROM BAD THERMOSTAT OR BAD WATER PUMP.CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAK AT WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE.IF SO WATER PUMP NEED REPLACING.ADD MORE COOLANT UNTIL LEVEL CORRECT.TRY LOCATE LEAK. IF CAR OVERHEATED AND BOILED IT OUT. SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD CAN ALSO BE CAUSED BY LEAKING VALVE COVERS WHICH CAN BE FIRE HAZARD IF OIL LEAKS ON HOT EXHAUST MANIFOLD.

Vw golf 2001 temperature fluctuates from 1/2 on temp gauge to 3/4, the temp cycles like this regularly. is this a cooling system issue or an electric fan issue. thanks

first thing to check is your coolant level. a lot of fluctuation will occur if the coolant level is low. if it is, be sure to find the leak to avoid engine damage. other causes can be plugged radiator, faulty thermostat, etc. but start with the coolant level.

My car just started overheating but not smoking and the check eng

Well....deep breath.......it's not bad.

1. Check your radiator coolant level

2. Check/Test radiator fan

3. Test/Replace radiator cooling fan relay

4. Replace the thermostat

5. Check/Replace the coolant temp sensor

6. Replace the water pump.

Possible fan relay

Both fans should run, they used large single fans on bigger engines, and usually 2 on smaller engines. Compact reasons. The motor for that fan should be checked with a meter to be sure the fan motor is good/bad. Try taking the relay out and re-inserting it. Does your car have 2 fan relays. If it has 1 relay for both fans, then your relay is good. Check the plug for the fan also, it could have came disconnected when working on your car. It may not look as if it is disconnected but enough not to make connection with the harness.

Chevy S10 overheated, now heat doesn't work, leaking coolant

When an engine is overheating and then the temp drops on the guage, it's usually a sign that the coolant is not touching the temp sensor. There's no coolant in the engine. Putting water in the overflow tank won't solve this. Take the radiator cap off after the engine cools and put coolant in the radiator. you might have to crank the engine and do this several times, as the engine can develop air pockets that won't allow the coolant to travel inside the engine. If you don't see any leaks, and it still uses coolant, you've probably got a blown head gasket. Check for water on the plugs, check cylinder compression. If it slowly uses coolant, try putting a large box of pepper in the radiator or some of that radiator seal copper flakes.

White smoke

The smoke must come from a coolant leak close to the radiator, or a fin crack in the radiator itself. Check all hoses and clamps, idle hot and look for smoke. You may have a heater core corrosion issue, watch close for coolant leaks on the floor mats inside, all of this may be connected and look for leaks where you park. Just a small amount can produce smoke, open the hood when it smokes and look.
