I have a 1994 olds 98 regency. I changed the spark plugs and the cars stalls out when it gets to running temp! It turns right back on and sometimes the check engine light comes on. I cannot figure out how to check the engine code because my car has a 16 pin connector but is still on the OBD1 system. How can i check the code?

Could be the security system locking out the injectors. Is the security light on? If you have an extra key try using the other one. Sometimes the pellets wear out.
The ses lite needs voltage and ground. Voltage goes hot when you turn the key on. The computer controls the ground circuit. I can't rule out, your instrument cluster may have a problem? The ground circuit could be shorted to ground before it reaches the computer. Or the computer has a problem? Just my opinion.
First thing I look for in a case like this is the common old vacuum leak. While the engine is fairly cold and running, take a can of spray carb cleaner and spray near known vacuum intersects or hose connections. The engine idle should change audibly if a leak is present. When a vacuum hose gets a bad split or tear, the engine performance goes wacky. Also look for a loose connection of the air intake hose(large one) or right where the connection is made to the intake. These engines are REALLY touchy where connections are concerned. don-ohio
These cars are equipped with a factory installed security system that runs off the chip in your key. When this system starts to fail, it can turn off starters and/or fuel to injectors. This causes the car to stall while driving. The system the corrects itself when you start it again. And then dies for the same reason. Check fuel pressure, spark. If no spark possible crank sensor or ignition module. If no fuel pressure tap the bottom of the fuel tank with a mallet while someone is cranking the vehicle if it starts then you will need a fuel pump. Also if you have spark and fuel but the engine feels like it bucking while turning over, take a hair dryer and heat the coils up.you may have a bad coil pack. After they get warmed it night then start as the coil resistance changes.
