    Time required, approximately 10 minutes:

Insure that the battery is fully charged.
Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs.
Turn the ignition switch from the OFF position to the CRANK position attempting to start the vehicle. The vehicle will start and then stall.
Leave the ignition switch in the ON position while observing the security indicator.
When the security indicator turns off, which can take up to 10 minutes, turn the ignition switch off. Wait 10 seconds.

The 2 second prime is normal,it won't run again until it sees engine speed so you may need a crankshaft speed senser.

My 94 gmc g2500 vandura put new fuel pump in but it wont work when cranking check fuse replaced pump relay nd oil senor I have hot wired the pump nd it works its just not working with key

Have you checked for power to the pump from the fuel pump relay. After the key has been off for 10 seconds, turn it on and there should be a short 2 or 3 second pulse of power from the relay and you should also hear a click there. If there is no power pulse,is there power to the relay?Remember the relay only primes the fuel system and the oil pressure switch keeps power to the pump when it sees oil pressure. Is there power at all times to the oil pressure switch? On these vans the wire from front to the pump can go bad, quite a few have had a new wire run for the pump over the years.A great van.

My 1998 gmc snonma votec wont start it cranks and cranks and after about 20 mins it starts after that i can shout it off and it will fire back up fine then a day will go by and it dose the same thing

You have to check the fuel pump pressure to make sure it is supplying sufficient fuel pressure..Try turning the switch to on but do not start..now listen for the fuel pump to prime the system..it should run for 4-5 seconds the shut off..now try and start..if it is fully primed it should start...note although you are getting some gas dosent mean the pump is ok...sometimes it starts to go bad and then all at once it will let you down for good...have it checked out..good luck

When you turn the ignition switch on what sends 12 volt power to fuel pump fuse on 86 gmc s15 2.8

The pump relay powers the pump for 3 seconds, then again after oil pressure comes up above 5psi.

IT WONT START OR STAY RUNNING UNLESS I KEEP PRIMING IT ITS FUEL INJECTED 4.3 VORTEC

Hi Palmer Jay, Take the vehicle for a diagnostic scan and have the fuel pump pressure checked at the same time. It sounds to me as if the pump may be defective and not giving the correct pressure. Also have them replace the fuel filter. Regards John

1999 GMC Savana 2500 fuel pump wiring diagram the pump has 2 elect. connections (1- 4 wire and 1- 3 wire). 5.7 litre vortec auto trans

there is 2 one is for the evap fuel tank pressure sensor...and the other is the pump module...the module one should be 4 wires purple gray white and pink i think..just 2 of them are for the actual pump...run a test lamp on them...you should have power to it for 5 seconds ..when the key is 1st turned to the run position..thats the prime siglal to the pump..

98 gmc savana 350 v8 was running then sputtered would not go turned off now wont start i checked and replaced fuel filter still no luck it will start with starting fluid but wont stay running

sounds like a fuel problem. could be a fuel shut off switch, fuel pump relay, fuel pump. Possible bad electrical plug connection to pump

Wont start unless manually primed

Turn the ignition key to the ON position without starting the engine

You should hear the fuel pump priming for about a few seconds then shutting itself off.
If not hear replace the engine oil pressure switch
The 3rd wire to that switch is the pumps prime switch lead.
When the engines oil pressure is reached the computer will shut that circuit off and turn on the fuel pump relay
If you hear the pump prime the relay maybe at fault instead

1998 gmc 2500 sle 5.7 wont stay running

Theres only one fuel pump relay, unless you have dual tanks. Be sure you have 55-60 psi fuel pressure. I "think" the oil pressure switch supplies power to the fuel pump after the engine is running.
