My 2004 Toyota tacoma automatic will reverse. However when the engine gets up to around 2000 rpm the truck seems like it kicks out of reverse and just starts reving up. Let off gas in reverse and rev down...

Could be a few issues, why was the tranny replaced? If the old one was failing badly and had any metal bits in the fluid etc, and you reused the same torque converter, that may be part of the problem. Was the system thoroughly flushed out before filling it back up? If not, same issue as torque converter is possible. If a new converter was used, was it filled up before you installed it? After sitting for so long the pump seals could have dried and the pump could be leaking, causing all kinds of problems.

Car only starts in reverse and only drives in neutral

Sounds like a cable to the transmission is not adjusted up right, and/or the neutral safety switch is not adjusted right, if this applies to your Toyota Corolla.

Replace starter

Disconnect the battery, then crawl under the truck and locate the starter, remove the plug going to the solenoid (small brown lead w plastic clip) . then the power wire that goes from the battery to the main starter terminal (12 mm nut) locate the 2 starter bolts 14 mm and unbolt the starter and remove. install in reverse order. ON the 4 wheel drives you may need to remove the skid plates over the bottom of the engine to access the starter.

Truck dies but engine keeps running. battery or alternator?

You need an alternator....well unless your belt came off or got very loose. The truck continued to drive because the battery had enough juice left to run the ignition system, but after you shut it off there was no where near enough to turn the engine over or possibly even run the starter. The battery will have to be charged and a new alternator installed.
Hope this helps.
