My 1996 Cadillac Sedan Deville heater blows cool air and engine is running at normal temps. It never seems to get up to temperature.

  • benrhoades Dec 12, 2009

The car has been in the family since it was new and the heater core has not been bypassed. I'm not sure what temp of thermostat it has in it. Is there a door or vent that mixes the outside air with the heated air to adjust the temperature?

If you are not the original owner, the previous owner may have bypassed the heater core. The heater core is like a small radiator that has hot water running through it from your motor. It is inside of your dash board, near your a/c and heater controls. That is how yur car gets hot air. The air runs through the heater core making it hot. Bypassing it is a cheap and quick fix for a leaking heater core. When they get a leak, they leak all inside the car down to the floor board. Check under the hood along the fire wall. If it is bypassed, you will see two hoses spliced together. One will be bigger that the other slightly. If this is your problem, you are more thatn likely need to replace your heater core

Cold air blowing out bottom vents 1986 cadillac deville

Well you need to post more info. What mode is the climate control in? what is the temp set to? Is the engine warmed up to operating temp? Is the coolant filled to the top of radiator and are the hoses going to the heater warm/hot when engine is running?

Temp got up to 230 on my 99 cadillac deville is that normal

Make sure your engine is breathing properly, by regularly changing air filters. Flush your cooling system once each year and pressure test. There are cooling lines that cross over the rear of the engine that get corroded and may begin to weep antifreeze..you can view these lines by removing the engine cover....if you've had a consistent odor of antifreeze after running, with no drippage evident, this area is probably the culprit.....love my 99...

1988 Cadillac Sedan Deville has no heat. It blows cool air but becomes lukewarm after running quite a while. I have put in a new radiator, new thermostat, whole system has been power flushed and still...

Touch both heater hoses going to the heater core. They should both be hot. If they are, then the problem is probably a broken or binding blend door or bad blend door actuator. If one hose is hot and the other cold, then the heater core is clogged.

1999 cadillac deville 4.6 heater blowing cold air, set temp at 90 degrees

Besure that you have enough coolant. Your engine has head bolt issues and this allows compression gases into the sooling system, and this pushes coolant out and the heater goes cold before the engine everheats.... VERY expensive to fix correctly. There is a test to determine if exhaust gases are in the cooling system...

1996 Cadillac Sedan Deville that overheats only when idling

The most common overheating problem with the Northstar engine is a blocked purge line(small hose). The purge line is designed to purge air out of the cooling system.
There is a small diameter hose coming from near the top of the coolant tank (not the cap) ,this is the purge line.
With the engine idling, pull the purge line from the tank,if there is no coolant flow from this small hose,it is blocked and this will cause overheating.
If the hose is clear, check for blockage at the nipple on the tank.Or trace the hose back until you find the blockage.
The hose goes in to the engine to a crossover and comes out the other side close to the thermostat housing, the blockage may be there.

HAVE THE SYSTEM TESTED BY THE DEALER, THERE SHOULD BE A FAULT CODE. BUT THE MOST LIKELY CAUSE IS THE AMBIENT AIR TEMP SENSOR.
