Idling up and down between 1200 and 800 rough idle 2002 saturn sl

Ok here's the deal check enigine soon light came on and idles real rough changed oil spark plugs and ignition control module yet still runs way rough and can smell gas coming out the tail pipe with alot of white smoke.... any ideas???

Have a 99 Saturn, rough idles, stalls, high RPMs when first started, then idles to rough idle, what is the first thing I check?
Sounds like the EGR is hanging open causing an internal vacuum leak.... Check all vacuum lines first for cracks / splits and then pull the EGR and make sure the pintle is not stuck open with a chunk of carbon.

Uptake valve? I've never heard of an uptake valve, but there is a idle
bypass valve, which when in need of cleaning or bad, will make a car
have a really rough idle.

mcdevito75 here, You can check the cold idle switch or if equipt the idle speed motor, Where they are exactly is ?? try to contact a Saturn Dealership or auto parts store.

1996 Saturn dbl overhead cam -idle is extremely high -turned down idle screw all the way -still revs -help!
you should not mess with idle screw, you are changing tps values,computer controls idle,check for vacum leaks,may be a hose or intake gasket.

2002 Subaru outback was idling rough and sometimes lungeing. Check engine light came on and when put on a machine it showed that the car was misfiring in 3 cylinders. Changed the plugs to find oil in them....
Could be the Idle Control Valve?

High idle/low idle pattern
This issue is caused by the egr valve being stuck open, more than likely. Just remove it and clean the plunger on it. Also clean out the two ports that are in the intake. Check out saturnfans.com for more information. I hope this helps.
