Change colnt sensr orcold start sensr
When you first start you vehicle, when it is cold, try turning the key on for about 4-5 seconds before turning the engine over. Listen for the fuel pump & see if it runs until the fuel system has pressurized. You may have to do this a couple times but it should make it easier to start. Run some injector cleaner through it & see if that helps.
If the pressure regulator is bleeding off fuel pressure. This will really make the engine hard to start when it is cold.
The fuel odor when you pull off the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose is a clue that it's leaking. During cranking the engine only gets one priming shot from all 6 injectors simultaneously until engine starts running and the cam sensor starts timing the injectors. By the way, To avoid confusion the crank sensor is properly abbreviated CKP and the camshaft sensor is CMP I think. An ECT(or for that matter an IAT) would likely set a dtc. A CKP might not set a dtc but you would not have good spark.
