I have a 1987 dodge ram 50 with a EGR code in my truck how do i fix it
In the 87 model the check EGR light was triggered by mileage to get you to have the EGR cleaned and serviced. In 87 they didn't have differential pressure transducers or smart computers to monitor EGR performance. On the right Side of the dash there is a square hole plug about 1 X 1.5 inches square it's behind your key ring if the keys are in the truck looks like it's for a factory option switch that you don't have it matches the one on the left side for the emergency flasher switch. Pull it out and look in the back of the hole at the top there is a black switch I can't remember if it resets the EGR Light or just checks the light Play with it and see of it turns off your EGR light.
Check the round black vacuum valve,it is connected to egr valve by a vacuum hose, pry it apart gently, there is a rubber diapham inside, remove it and hold it up to a light and look for any light coming thru it,or water moisture in in.
