My 98 oldmobile regency had a radiator leak a couple weeks ago but I got it fixed. This morning my wife went to the doctor. She said on the way it felt as if the car was losing power when she had to stop at stop signs and then tried to accelerate. The traction light blinked on but then quickly went off. She noticed no other problems until she was getting ready to leave the office. The car would not start. The radio, heat and lights come on but the motor won't turn over. The check engine light is on. It was very cold last night but she did let the car warm up before she left the house. What could be wrong.
Well the fact that the traction light came on and blinked off when taking off is a good thing, it just means that your traction control is working properly. When that light comes on it means that one wheel was spinning and that the car adjusted the speed of the drive wheels to compensate. The car not starting needs to be addressed as to whether the car is turning over slowly, clicking, or making no noise at all. The check engine light will remain on until the vehicle is started, so that does not correlate to your problem. If it clicks, or turns over sluggishly, then it just needs a jump start and a test of the battery. If the lights come on, but the car does not turn over al all, then you may need to look at replacing a starter.
