The key is stuck in my daughter's 2001 Saturn SC2

My daughter just called saying the key is stuck in her 2001 Saturn SC2. She had driven a mile or two and stopped and couldn't get the key to move or release. With some encouragement, and after much wriggling, she finally got it to release. She has automatic transmission, and it's in park, and she said the steering wheel was not locked. From what I've read on here, I suspect it's a stuck tumbler. However, it's currently 10 degrees F and was much lower over night. Her car sits outside on the driveway. I'm wondering if the cold is the problem and if some lubrication (graphite?) in through the keyhole would help the tumblers move in low temps. Or does it need replacement?

Thanks for the advice on the graphite. As a followup, my daughter admitted last week that she hadn't had it "fully" in park, and when she nudged the stick and it moved a little, the key freed up and came out. My *first* question to her over the phone when the key was stuck had been "Is it in park?" and she had assured me at the time that it was. Cold weather or not, my philosophy is to always check the obvious first :-(

1993 Saturn SC2 will not crank, but tries to turn over?

You are saying the engine cranks but does not start, right ?
Does it sound like it has compression ? If not could be a broken timing belt.

2001 saturn sc2 will die after starting

The key is to locate the Bosch type relay.

It's a simply SPST 12V relay.

The alarm install like to hid it so it will prevent a car theft to by pass the relay.

Most likely it's on a female socket. The relay may be sitting off center,

THE KEY IS to find this black square relay.

I have a 99 saturn sc2 with a twin overhead cam. it has a hard knock in the top end driver side. Do u know what it could be?

Most likely it's a stuck lifter. Try running some SeaFoam or Marvel Mystery Oil in the oil for maybe 500 miles and then doing an oil change; usually this will free them up. Otherwise you'll probably have to replace the lifters (they come as a set). How many miles do you have on it? What oil do you use? And how often do you change it?

2001 saturn sc2 gets code 341&340 camshaft sensor

if you have high resistance in secondary ign. system (plug wires, ign.coil) this will cause this code to set. make sure you are using a high quality spark plug wire set. not from autozone!!! and denso non platinum tipped spark plugs. also use a diaelectric grease on plug wires to keep moisture out.
