Replace Fuel Filter on 2006 Chevy Aveo Hatchback

I have a 2006 Chevy Aveo Hatchback. I need to replace the fuel filter. Is the fuel filter external to the fuel pump, or will I have to replace the whole fuel pump to replace the filter? Thanks.

If the fuel filter is mounted inside the fuel tank at the pump it does not need replacing and is a permanent filter. All you have to do it follow the fuel lines from the fuel tank to the engine. If the filter is mounted in the fuel line you will find it.

If the fuel flow is comprised by the in tank filter it must be changed or the pump will be damaged.

Is there a fuel filter on an '05 Chevy Aveo LS 1.6?

It doesn't have a filter, only the fine mesh nylon intake sock on the fuel pump (never needs service unless the pump is replaced). Why do you ask?

2006 Chevy Aveo

My Aveo was throwing codes. They were pointing to O2 sensors or fuel filters. Went back to the basics and replaced plugs, wires, and found out there is no fuel filter to replace. Once the cover was off to work on the plugs, we ran the car and heard a vacuum leak on one of the molded right angle lines. You could move the vacuum line and make it run worse. Replaced the line and cleared the codes - car runs fine.

Start with replacing the fuel filter. The Aveo fuel filter is located passenger-side rear, in front of the rear tire.

If there is no filter there, then the filter is a non serviceable filter and is integrated with the fuel sending unit. Your going to have to replace the fuel sending unit if the fuel pressure is slow, start with running fuel injector cleaner through the fuel system for the next few fill up's and hope that will clear up the issues your having.

The other thing to is that your IAC (idle air control) valve may be dirty and is stuck close, you can try cleaning it by spraying Throttle body cleaner through the throttle body, paying attention to the IAC passageway. A dirty of faulty EGR valve will also do the same thing.

Start with the simple and inspect to see if you do have a external fuel filter, and inspect the wire leads to the IAC, EGR and clean them with throttle body cleaner. Don't forget to run the fuel injector cleaner through your gas tank.

Thank you for using Fixya and good luck.

Where is the fuel filter in the aveo ls 2006 model

The Aveo does not encorporate a changeable fuel filter.
It is incorporated into the fuel pump as a mesh screen "strainer".

The filter is an integral part of the fuel pump module and fuel
pump regulator assembly.

The filter can be serviced only by replacement of the fuel module assembly.

2007 aveo fuel line

look under car at the rear where gas tank is, you should see 2 or 3 small metal lines coming down from thr front of the tank, then you can follow those to the engine.
IF you are looking for a fuel filter that is external, like the older cars have, forget it. The filter is part of the fuel pump, which is located IN the fuel tank. You would need to remove the pump to replace the filter, I haven't had to do that yet but you "may" be able to access it by removing the carpet in the rear to see if there is a access panel that you can remove to get to the top of the pump.
Prices for the complete pump, which may need replacing, at Napaonline.com lists at $464, you can find the same pumps on Ebay for around $100, give or take a few $.
Someone should have just the filter but since you have to remove the pump to get to it, it may be a good idea to replace the complete pump, as these cars were not the best made, they do start having problems at or before 50,000 miles.
Also, see Q on timing belt replacement, they can/do break after/before that milage also, when they break the engine is usually worthless, replace it now and every 40K or 50K after that for your own sake, see the link I posted for that procedure.
