Trouble shooting power windows- all 4 windows stop working at the same time. please help

Did you check power an grounds at the driver door switch ? Before changing the switch ? How about fuse's ? You could go to you tube an check out videos on power windows an door lock trouble shooting . Basic electrical trouble shooting etc.... Go to www.bbbind.com/ for free wiring diagrams to trouble shoot the circuits .

The rear window defroster can be tested by checking for power out of the fuse box to the switch which operates a relay usually 4 pin 2 pins are the controlling side and the other 2 are battery power and the window element wire. Some switches have a led light in them that shows power is completed thru the switch . With a volt meter test wires at rear window some times if to many breaks in the grid stops the system from working. the cruise control has a servo with it's own throttle cable check for broken cable and check for engine vacuum to servo. then test switches on steering column with a ohm meter for proper continuity and test brake light switch.

If no power to the fuse panel for that fuse and circuit breaker, you may have a maxi-fuse burnt out in the power distribution box by or near the battery. Check all your fuses under the hood.

I'd try to see if I could hear the window motor working.
Otherwise, I'd remove the door panel and take a voltage reading at the window motor.
If ya have voltage, then we're looking at a window motor or a window regulator.

NO COST PROCEDURE TO FIX IT:

1. Sit in vehicle on seat next to problematic window
2. Ignition key is on
3. Door in question is opened (in case you closed it)
4. While door is open, press and hold power window button in desired window travel, keep button pressed !!
5. SLAM door closed with one hand while other hand holds button as per #4.
6. Watch window operate as it should.
7. Repeat 3-6 if necessary, but usually the first try works!

NOW, for the naysayers that says you must replace power window motors etc, at $$$ cost because the above fix does not work, or is not long lasting fix, or less than a "professional fix".... Well then, when the window fails to operate again, apply same fix again at that time.

I have fixed my van this way numerous times (usually once a year), and to all I recommend this fix too, likewise do the same and are happy with the solution.
