Normally when the gas indicator light comes on, you have about 2 gallons left. Fill up your gas tank and reset your trip counter. Next time your gas indicator light comes on, check how many miles are on your trip counter. Use that number as a guide to when you should fill up with gas. Remember to always reset the counter every time you fill up. Good luck!
Check engine light comes on with faulty oxygen sensor, loose gas cap or faulty gas cap. sometimes with low octane fuel as well. fill up with high octane fuel, tighten down the cap and see if it helps.
The gas smell may be from filling the gas tank too much. When filling tank, do not over fill tank. when the fuel nozzle clicks off the first time do not add more fuel. It will back fill into the emission evaporator canister and therefor smell like gas fumes until the fuel tank get's lower. on a hill the gas in the tank may flow into the opening of the evaporation canister. I have had this happen and thought it was a leaking fuel line. Don't over fill Fuel Tank...
your fuel level sending unit in the gas tank is probably bad. mine has gotton so bad i have to use the odometer and just fill my gas tank every 240 miles. i just found a kit to replace the problem sending unit on e-bay for $38 so i am gonna give it a try.
ok im trying to be a mind reader now!!! what car is it????
i can tell you why the light come's on,,,its to tell you you need to fill up with gass again? in the uk we call that light the "**** he*d's light" as people dont see it then they run out of gass! stupid "A" if you realy need to know how many galls it takes just fill it up when the light comes on,,not after you have ran out of gass!
Hi! You definitely have a problem on the fuel float thats why the check engine light is coming out. Please replace the fuel float and you'll be good. HOpe this helps and have a good one!
I hope you did not top it off because filing it up like that will wreck havoc on the evap system. The engine light should go away as the gas in your tank is used up, or it may take some time, but hopefully it goes away. Just next time you fill up don't top off when it clicks off thats it. Also make sure the gas cap is tight. A loose gas cap can make the check engine light come on. I am an emmission repair specialist, and deals with these crazy things sometimes lol.
Also, be sure to not over-fill the gas tank. When filling the tank, when it sounds full (you can hear gas gush up the filler neck) and when the filler clicks off the first time...don't be tempted to keep clicking more gas into the tank because over-filling can cause a variety of problems (including setting the light) and can eventually saturate/ruin the fuel vapor canisters.
Could be a warning that your fuel pump may be going. The gas level monitor is controlled by a float in the gas tank. It is attached to the fuel pump attachments. It too is electronically controlled.
