Both of these codes refer to the transmission,it is now in LIMP HOME MODE,the codes refer to open or shorted circuits in the CAN (controlled area network) the computer system in the car. check for blown fuses first, then have the car scanned with a european scan tool which is capable of bi-directional communication with the vehicle, get back to me if you need more help,Please rate my fix as i strive to be the best Thanks Ray

Fault code p1797 s type 3ltr petrol 2005 car not starting help

P1797 = Neutral Switch Circuit Malfunction.
I am assuming yours is an automatic. On Automatics there is a switch on the transmission that can override the ignition to prevent the vehicle starting if it is in gear. This code is showing a fault in either the wiring to the switch or the switch itself.
This is one of those jobs which depends on where the switch is fitted. On some Jags it is fitted (hidden) underneath the battery box so it's not too bad to get to. However, some are mounted on the transmission housing in a typically silly location and it becomes a much bigger job. Personally I would suffer the pain of paying and getting a good mechanic to do it as they will have all the tools to deal with it quickly.

I got a 2005 X-type Jaguar for the half the dealer's marked price knowing it was in limp mode. The dealer told me that the Jaguar dealer (where he inspected the jaguar) said the "2/4 brk duty solenoids"...

the problem is in the electronics of the transmission
from your statements , it indicates that the TR sensor is not working properly and the transmission has problems selection the correct ratios
the engine light reports on both engine and transmission faults
first get the fault codes then fic/replace the items causing the codes

My 2005 Jag S-Type 6 cylinder check engine light came on and while in parked position the check engine light started to blink yellow and stated "Restricted Performance" what does that mean?

You have a fault condition in the the engine management system - get the codes read to indicate where the fault lies ... It is probably just a faulty sensor as this is the most common cause of check engine warnings. The restricted performance condition is meant to protect the engine or components from damage, so don't panic - get the codes read - its probably not as bad as you expect. hope this helps - good luck.

I have a jaguar 3 litre v6 x type 51 plate with an engine warning light on dash the car seems to b driving fine wot cud this be ? [email protected]

The engine light shows a fault has occurred. The recorded fault will be visible if you have the codes read. One of the most common faults is the MAF (mass air flow sensor) this sometimes shows a wrong reading and logs as a fault, The light may go back out after the engine has completed another self check - if there is no ongoing fault. Get the codes read to be sure. .............. hope this helps

I have a 2002 X-type Jag. My engine light comes on and I had it check. The code is P1796. Can you tell what this mean?

My records show that P1796 Fault indicates a Kick Down Switch Circuit Malfunction, however there appears to be some discrepency here as other records show it as a CAN bus (off) fault. A quick check to see if your car will go into kickdown should identify which is which. Clear the fault then drive gently for 20-30 miles, if no engine light then use the kickdown and see if it comes on. You can check out other fault codes at http://www.bluejag.co.uk.
