You insert the key in the ignition of your Mercedes-Benz, but nothing happens. You can't turn the key. You can't start the car. The main reason this happens is a dead battery, but it can also be several other problems described below. As you insert the Smart Key remote into the Electronic Ignition Switch(EIS) control module (N73), power is supplied to the key by the induction coil ring located in the EIS. Data is then exchanged with the infrared transmitter to validate the Drive Authorization. This article discusses why the key won't turn in the ignition and a possible solution.
First of all you need to programm all ignition keys using suitable diagnostic equipment (VAS, VAG-Com) connected to the data link connector of the car. You have an electronic immobilizer key recognition problem. Now your key chip is not recognized by the transponder antenna fitted on the ignition switch barrel.
Everytime when you had a new key you must programm all available ignition car keys before trying to start the engine with this new key !!!
This warning lamp indicates that the engine is locked by the immobilizer system, and the engine start sequence must be repeat again.
From year 1995 in Audi-VW (VAG) cars is used engine immobilizer. The VAG group immobilizer system consists of an immobilizer ECU which controls the recognition of keys and the Engine Management ECU system. Immobilizer is activated when the ignition key is removed and, together with the engine control unit, largely prevents unauthorized starting of the engine. The system uses a transmitter and receiver unit in the ignition key (transponder). Whenever an attempt is made to start the engine, it transmits a new code to the car's electronics. The immobilizing is only cancelled and car motor electronic receives permission to start engine if the key sends a right authorization code.

first replace the battery in your key and have a look if you have any additional key try by that key it may work if without right diagnose no one can find it's faulty key or electronic ignition switch, if not the fault in key
possibly faulty steering lock or electronic ignition switch, in this
case you have to get your car in to the Mercedes workshop for diagnose.
first remove battery holder of you electronic ignition key, then have a look inside you can see white color small plastic lock between key circuit and housing, you have to remove that plastic lock first by very small tool, the lock have to unclip by both end, after remove the lock very carefully pull electronic circuit out, then have a look at the front end you can see small copper winded coil has fixed in to the circuit, carefully check that one of connection has comes off from printed electronic circuit, some time it's touch itself that why its working, if not contact it will not work, if you know how to do soldering you can sold it otherwise ask some one who have experience with soldering, it's bit risky job need to do perfectly at first time if not will damaged your electronic key, it's wery expensive to buy new one be careful otherwise ask experience technician to do it,if not the fault in key possibly faulty steering lock or electronic ignition switch, in this case you have to get your car in to the Mercedes workshop for diagnose. is this information helped you please vote me and leave a comment,
