I was driving my 1995 toyota camry and then it starting jumping and just died. now it wont crank up just turns over really fast, had the alternator tested and its good.. could it be timing belt? and if it is could it have messed up motor
Same thing happened to my sons' Aries. we replaced timing belt and everything worked great> to confirm broken timing belt, remove valve cover >crank engine over and watch valve train, no movement= broken belt. you can check tech manual but as previously stated if this is not an interferance engine, cranking engine won't run a piston into an open valve. good luck.
By what you have explained I am in agreement with you about it being the timing belt. Some engines when the timing belt breaks will allow the pistons to come in contact with the valves thus creating another problem Bent Valves. That means that now the heads would have to come off and be repaired as well. The good news is your engine is not one of those engines. If it is the belt just have it replaced oh and while you are there you may want to have the water pump replaced as well if you havent done it.The water pump is driven by the timing belt and because of the difficulty in getting to it it would be wise to replace it at this time.
I seriously doubt its the fuel pump if the engine is turning over very fast. Do as hansola said check for spark at the plug wires. Second make sure fuel is getting to the intake. You woudnt have to replace your engine just the timing belt and tensioner.Like I said before your engine is not an interference engine so dont worry about bent valves but it does have a timing belt driven water pump. I have already looked into the type of engine your vehicle has and the pistons will free spin without doing damage to your valves if your timing belt broke.

If your timing belt broke while driving, there WILL be engine damage. Valves will not be moving in response to your pistons continuing to move. I hope that it is not your timing belt. Check your ignition module, first, that's easier.
Hope this helps!

the guy at auto zone said it was more than likely the timing belt. i hope its not cuz i cant afford a new motor just put one in there the first of year..
could it be the fuel pump or fuel filter?
