Fuel guage is not reading correctly or at all actually
I recently changed batttery and prior to me doing this the fuel guage needle went to the other side of the peg and now it won't go back to normal. how do i fix?
I don't believe it's a fuse as the needle will drop straight down when power is off; however, once power is on the needle raises up to bottom of peg. The problem is it rotated clockwise completely around for some strange reason...nissan gremlims I guess, and hit bottom of peg. Thus peg is stopping needle from moving up to current fuel position, which should be around 3/4 tank.I don't believe it's a fuse as the needle will drop straight down when power is off; however, once power is on the needle raises up to bottom of peg. If the fuel guage worked prior to changing the bulbs the ground should be ok. The only thing disturbed was the cluster assembly when you removed it. Recheck the connections at the back of the cluster again for tight connections and making sure there are no bent pins. You can also try tapping on the cluster near the fuel guage area to see if that helps
sounds like a bad grond some were, first check and recheck fuses.pullem, checkem, replacem, then check[BLACK] batttery to body, body to motor then comes the fun part, call your bank to see how much you can spend.you try to find it your self or take it to a shop, it could be the ground coming off your gastank,[YOU HAVE TO DROP GAS TANK FOR THAT]or cold socket on dash[ground]or lose wire. hope this helps a little. good luck
there could be many reasons for this but when the rpm needle went down, did the car died out? if is just doing that you may have problems with an electical conection, fuel pump or relays, have the car check for this systems.
have you had any work done on it recently?
It sounds like it might have lost its ground, or maybe the electrical connection to the sending unit on tank, chk. all that first, if no change on guage it might be a problem with the flote in the tank.
Your needle moving from empty to full and then back to empty indicates that it is trying to set itself (most cars do this each time they are started). So, yes, there seems to be a problem with the sending unit that feeds information to your gas guage. Prior to cracking open your fuel tank, you might try tracking the wires from the back of your guage as far as you can towards the tank. Then track the wires from your tank as far as you can toward the guage. Watch for damaged wires and/or loose connections as you go.
The most likely culprit is the sending unit in the tank. They are relatively easy to change, as long as you don't have much fuel in the tank. It's a mechanical unit that has a float that raises and lowers with the fuel level, however with age, the floats can develop leaks and no longer float, of the electronic portion of the unit can go bad and not register the proper level. They are replaced and an entire unit, so it doesn't matter which happened, you will need to change the fuel tank sending unit.
1.If the needle on the guage is stuck. you can try tapping the guage to see if the needle moves or turn the ignition on and off a few times to see if you can get it to move. If the guage drops to empty when you turn off the ignition you know that its not the guage. (note that the guage does not drop to zero when ignition is off with all cars of this age).
2. The problem could be with the sensor in the fuel tank itself. Rocking the vehicle up and down from the rear (you will need help doing this) may free the sensor level indicator ball in the tank.
drop fuel tank. if guage moves all around its probably the fuel level sensor on fuel pump assembly in the fuel tank. If the guage stay's in one spot its the guage , replace instrument cluster assembly. you can take just the glass off the cluster and move the fuel guage needle and it will work (if stuck) but for how long? The wires to the guage come from the sending unit to the power train control module to the instrument cluster. pray its not in the wiring.
