1992 Honda Accord cooling problems--Please help!

Ok, this is confusing me. I have a 92 accord and I recently had radiator problems. I replaced the radiator, the lower and upper radiator hoses, and checked all my connections etc. The car runs cool while driving, but if I stop for awhile it overheats. While driving the heat works kind of, but when I stop it goes cold. Currently I have no thermostat in the car because when I install one the car gets no coolant to the lower hose. Its starting to cool down outside so I need to put one in. I have tried three thermostats and end up with the same conclusion, and I have tested all three and they all work correctly. I have checked my heater core and it works fine. Also the car idles funny when it is first started, but calms down after about ten minutes. I have already gotten all the air out of the coolant system to no avail. Please, help.

yes the fans are working, and I have bled the system a few times to make sure all the air was out. When I put the thermostat in it overheats as soon as it warms up. Without the thermostat it only overheats if I am sitting in traffic or if the car is left on not moving.

I haven't seen the weep hole leaking at all, but that is my next step. I am taking the water pump off tomorrow, I will keep you posted. Thanks for the help.

Did you find the problem yet? I have a similar situation, but not exactly the same. Mine does not over heat, but I do not get enough heat from the heater. I was thinking mine might be clogged and I was going to flush the system with a chemical flush. I figured that it wouldn't be the water pump because I do get water flow and I am assuming that if the pump was shot, I wouldn't have any flow. Please let me know.

Are your fans working? Almost sounds like a bubble in your coolant. Did you bleed the air out after the radiator install?

I smell a bad water pump.. If your water pump is bad you get very poor coolant circulation not to mention at a stand still(red light) you get less air flow to cool down the coolant. Since you have poor coolant circulation you wont get the proper coolant to heater core as well so you get less warm air threw heater. Not to mention that when a water pump is faulty and you have a thermostat it allows even less coolant circulation compared to a constant flow of antifreeze. I would have it checked. Good luck

P.S, I am assuming that your electric fans are working and you have to proper mixture of antifreeze and water.

On my 92 honda on my radiator i have grounding lines hanging and my car is overheating

you probably , did not bleed the radiator for proper circulation , and if you didn't notice also , you probably didn't plug your radiator cooling fan back up , because it starts up once your cars coolant becomes too hot , look into this , this could be your problem ...good luck !!

I have a 92 model honda accord the car is boiling water but the temperature indicator remain normal

Be sure your radiator/cooling system is full. In many cases there is a bleeder valve to release air. If there is none, 'bleed' air at top radiator hose. Remember, this system is under pressure, you can burn yourself badly if U dont follow proper procedure. Look it up in your repair manual.

Where & how to install thermostat in honda accord ex 1992

you need to follow the upper hose that lead from the radiator to the engine, there is two bolt that connect the thermostat housing to the block loosen the bolt using a 10 mm socket with ra-chet. Make sure that the engine is cool off before attempt to do this you will lose coolant but that's ok you will add the coolant when you finish replacing the thermostat. start the engine with the radiator cap off then add coolant slowly and cap it, then fill the reservoir up.

note the way you remove the thermostat that's the same way you will put the new one so pay attention when you remove the old one good luck.

NEED TO REPLACE WATER PUMP

if you go to your local library most do carry the manuals and you can copy the info you need.
difficult.. yes. extremely difficult...no
if you decide to do it make sure you use 1/2 drive breaker bar on crank pulley if your lower timing cover cannot be moved far enough to access the water pump mounting bolts. also make sure you don't turn the timing gear when removing the belt or replacing it.
hope this will help you.

92 honda accord intermittent crank but no start/ tranny issues

I know that early 90's Honda's had problems and in fact a recall on the distributor. Might want to replace the distributor. Inside of the distributor is a part called the igniter which is the ignition module and that is what normally goes out. I cannot remember if you have to replace the whole distributor to get the igniter or if you can just replace the igniter itself. Has been a few years since I have worked on one. hope this helps but if not please contact me. I'm not sure about the drive light flashing thing though, new one on me.
