Question moved from spanish car maker 'Seat' (See-At).
Question edited for clarity. Guessing it is a Volvo, so moved it there. 'Year Make Model' in all question please.
Try, it just be aware of pinch points and get ready to move fast. Also have someone at the ignition key ready to cut power in case anything jams.
The soft-top system works with a combination of mechanical, hydraulic and electronic means. This provides fast and exact control of the motion. The soft top is opened and closed either with the control button in SIC-C or with the remote control and the function is fully automatic. No manual handling is necessary.
The soft top, which is pulled taut on the mechanism, comprises three layers, one outer water- repellent, one insulating and one interior.
The soft top mechanism is built of parallel three-part magnesium rails with six lateral bows. When the soft top is open, it is covered by the soft top cover and stored in a space between the rear seat and the luggage compartment.
The soft top is opened and closed using a hydraulic system controlled by the STC (Soft Top Control).
You can manually shift the selector lever on top of the transmission. You chould check the likage, it must be broken or disconnected either on the transmission end or on the selector itself. Source :Haynes manual
u need to remove the bottom part of ur rear seat, just pull it out. There is a lever to left side under this seat with a red flap, pull the lever it will diengage the motors that control ur convertible soft top. This will set it to manual mode, u can now slide it open or shut manually. Have a look at this video on utube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boiybaJkMrI
It has to be a seal or missing plug that is causing the problem. You can check the seal by taking a piece of chalk and using it to layer around the interior area that would contact the seal in the trunk. Then you can close the trunk and open it and the chalk should transfer to all surfaces of the seal itself. If the chalk isn't making contact at all points the places where it doesn't are most likely the locations causing the leaks.
No doubt your soft top issue has long been resolved but just in case someone has a similar issue:
I started to open my A4 Soft top externally using the door key method and like an idiot I must have disengaged the key before the soft top was fully down. I was unable to activate the opening or closing of the soft top automatically using either the key or soft top switch inside. I then manually closed the soft top using the users handbook and manual tool supplied. Soft top would still Not open automatically and the soft top alarm would activate. I solved the issue by manually opening the soft top fully and then manually closing the soft top fully. This seemed to have reset whatever had gone askew.
Hi there, I have Volvo c70 cabriolet year 1999. I got
problem with this car. I parked o my garage and after 3 month I go to start the
gar but I can’t star battery is fane every thing is fine but the car is not
start is coming the nose to start but is not comin up. Can any one tell me what
should I do for it please?
Open the trunk. Remove the material covering on the left hand side. You will see 2 electric motors(similiar to the ones that wind the windows). One motor open and closes the roof lid the other brings the roof up or down.
These motors can be engaged and disengaged manually.
First check that the motor's are working.
If the motors are working.
Then engage and disengage until they are in sync and open and closes the roof in the correct order.
