There is a steel pipe that runs across the motor there, they are prone to corroding and leaking, you might get away with cutting it and bridging with a piece of hose but the best bet is to replace it. We have been lucky a couple of times and found a car in the wreckers that had newish ones fitted.

Oil leak under 1997 Pontiac sunfire convertible engine needs work

Most likely you oil leak is coming from your main seal . They wear out and get hard and brittle you could also have valve gaskets leaking and the oil is running down the engine and onto the floor.

2001 pontiac sunfire will not hold any antifreeze, why and whats wrong with my car????

General advice:U must track the leak .How much it takes to loose the coolant?.If the coolant shows under the car must identify the tubes clamps that need tighten or replace. If a radiator related problem need clean/solder/replace.If leaky water pump, replace. If no trace of coolant ceck the oil.If is color altered(milky)u have a head gasket ahead (with head revision)or a broken engine block/piston cyclinder. If the oil is ok,ceck the smoke:whity smoke means coolant in the pistons head.Again best guess:head gasket (can leak also in the intake manifold).Very rare coolant shows in some cars in the power stearing oil (!?) track the tubes.Tip:colored coolant (green...)is better visible in leaks.Tip:water coolant may show rusty spots where dissapearing (radiator, expansion deposit, pitched tube).Hope u deal it.Cheers.

Replaced thermostat on pontiac sunfire now there's smoke coming from coolant tank

Sounds like you have a leaking head gasket or damage to the engine from when it overheated.
A leaking head gasket can cause compression to leak into the cooling system and pull coolant into the cylinders which is burned out the exhaust. It does not have to leak into the oil.
A shop would check for exhaust gas in the cooling system and run a compression test on the cylinders.

I got a 2002 pontiac sunfire. it overheaded on me and am no tring to figure out the cause. there is oil leaking from under the car. there is a pipe with sorta like a can on it. manifild maybe? thats were...

hopfully the oil leak isnt causing overheating issue. if thats the case, your out of oil. if oil level ok, check coolant level, and if low, track down the leak source. make sure belt is intact, and water pump is spinning, etc. let me know what you find and i can help further.

My 2000 pontiac sunfire is running hotter than usual

You didnt fix the leak all the way apparently because those are sure signs of head gasket failure. Get a compression test done and check your oil and coolant to see if they have any milky white color and texture. More than likely thats going to be your problem. I hope that helps.

This is a common problem with the 1997 sunfire it probably is the head but before you go that far I would suggest doing a chemical test on it , your local mech shop can do this test for you ...

2000 sunfire, pontiac 2.2 eng. overheating noticed leaking from a elbow shaped hose appears to be from heater core, cuz its on the back firewall bet eng and firewall? looking for a complete diagram of...

I would start by replacing that section of hose. Depending on how much it's leaking it could be the source of the engine overheating as well. After it replaced make sure coolant level is where it's supposed to be. Hope this helps

1997 Sunfire overheating

Did hubby put the thermostat in the right way round? Is the car driving ok no excessive smoke or steam as these cars are famous for the cylinder head gasket going south this would explain no coolant and the overheating? Does the electric fan come on? Look into the dipstick and see if there is any white mixture around it looks like mayo that’s an indication of water in the oil. Fill the radiator up again and let the car idle with the overflow tank cap of this will allow any trapped air to bleed of and help with any vapor lock. Did hubby make sure he scrapped all the old water pump gasket of the block before he put the new gasket and water pump on? If the surface was uneven e.g. old gasket still stuck on the block it would not seal correctly and leak hope this helps
