Light in toyota corolla VE 98, automatic gear shifter is not working how to fix it?

could be the starter motor is faulty

more than likely you have a park lock solenoid problem , a lot of them are located on the shifter assembly or attached to a cable coming from the ignition when you press the brake pedal you can hear a click ," locate it" and disconnect the electrical connection to the solenoid

This s an electrical problem. Changing oil will not fix it. Check wiring from switch to to the light.

Get the code pulled from the cars computer. It will tell you why the check engine light came on.

On the 1994 Toyota Corolla, there is an override switch, which is located above the gear shift under a plastic tab. ( You need something like a key or screwdriver to depress it), It will get you out of park and allow you to drive. I'm guessing however that the "brake light service switch" is the problem and needs to be fixed, so having got it moving, I would suggest you drive it to your dealer to get it examined

Because the brake light switch is not working and you have NO brake lights, power to the shifter is through the brake light switch.

CHECK CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER.SEE IF YOU HAVE FLUID IN IT.YOU COULD HAVE KNOCK THE FLUID LINE TO CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER A LOOSE.WHILE WORKING ON VALVE COVER.

TAKE TRIM FROM AROUND SHIFTER
SHOULD BE BULB HOLDER W/LIGHT AT SHIFTER BAD CONNECTION OR BULB BURNT

There is a bulb under the shifter. It is probably burned out.

You need to purchase a number 194 bulb at an auto parts store. Next, you need to remove the entire center console to gain access to the socket that holds the bulb. This is fairly easy. After the console is removed, look under the shifter assembly to locate the socket.

it may be a brake light switch. on most vehicle the brake light switch releases the shift lock that may be your problem
