Question about 2003 Nissan Sentra

2 Answers

I am driving a Nissan Sentra 2003. The car has only about 30,000 miles on it. For 3 years now he ''serve enginge' light is on and no carmechanic seems to know what is wrong. The car drives great and has not let me down once. When the car was 3 years old I took it to the dealership to complain about the problem. They wanted to take me to the cleaners and tried to sell me a new car. We went all the way up to Nissan USA and wanted tohave the problem fixed on guarentee, No Luck. Last year I took it to Nissan again and they wanted to replace the computer, not knowing what was wrong. ($1000). When I left the garage the light switched off for a day and I used to opportunity to get the car through inspaction. Now I am in the same boat again. CAn I ever have trust again in my car??? Since the problem is not caused by normal wear and tear and the car is serviced regularly. I ask you what can it be and het can I do?? Thank you for your advice Helga Bayley

Is it the orange/yellow "check engine" light, with the icon that looks like an engine, or a worded message saying "service engine soon"? If it's the first, have the computer scanned for fault codes. If it's the second, there is no problem with your car. That's a preprogrammed mileage-based warning that comes up every several thousand miles to remind you that some periodic service is due (oil change, tire rotation, etc) - it doesn't imply that there's a problem. There is a reset procedure for it that will be detailed in your owner's manual.

There could be a hundred causes for a check engine light. First step is to hook up a computer scan tool and see what codes the computer has. The next step depends on the codes.

I have a 2008 nissan sentra and the gears are lagging when I accelerate the vehicle. I don't have an engine light on and the catalytic converter was replaced about 6 months ago. It sounds like it is trying...

To have to replace an Exhaust Converter in less than 10 to
14 years, tells me the vehicle has not run well most of the time
you have owned it

Cylinder misfires, vacuum leaks or rich fuel mixture, ruined it

The trans fluid HAS to be changed every 3 years or 30,000
miles or it WILL Fail, I guarantee you, having once owned a
trans shop

Check the fluid & if you don't have over 60,000 miles on it ,
change it
DO NOT HAVE IT FLUSHED ---just drop the pan---

Have to get the motor running correctly, before you have control
over the shift strategy, also.

The trans take special fluid-- so be careful

Read your Maintenance Manual about CVT Fluid

It should say 60,000 or 30,000 if you tow etc

I would do it every 30 to 40,000 max, on ALL Vehicles
regardless of trans model or fluid type

For now --ALL Nissan's HAVE to use the dealer fluid to be safe

In a couple years the aftermarket will have it & so will Wal.Mart

How often should i tuneup my 2004 nissan maxima

Same as on all your vehicles

The same as you have done all your life

Tune-ups went by the wayside 25 years ago

Spark plugs etc--every 3 years or 70,000 miles
Filter -every 3 years or 30,000 miles
Brake fluid every 2 years
Trans& Power Steering every 30,000 miles

Set up your own schedule from past experience

I assume you keep no log book, if have to ask

I just got an oil change and the guy recommended that i get my automatic transmission fluid flushed...i have 48,000 miles on my car..should i do this service for $120?

It should be done, usually around 30,000 miles or 24 months, whitchever comes first. Shop around, $120, I think is a little high.

Light just came on: service engine soon... 2005

Just take it to a shop and have somebody look at it. It could just be maintenance that needs to be done. When was the last time the oil was changed? Newer cars are programmed to turn that light on at specific intervals to ensure proper and timely maintenance is performed.

What's the typical car life for a 01 nissan sentra?

ITS just run in you silly person as the normal engine (the heart of the car) will do about 200,000 miles and still go strong ...But you dont have to drive like a mad man just look after it and it will serve you well ..

My 2003 Nissan Sentra is getting terrible mileage

Two possible problems

1 - O2 Sensor

2 - Mass air flow sensor(Most common problem on Sentra's)

Spend a 100 buck and have a nissan dealer check it out for you as they would have the tools to check the sensors correctly

2003 nissan sentra gxe no power after 40mph and rpms go high

if this car has an automatic transmission, i would verify the fluid is full and clean. if manual trans, clutch? the fuel filter in this car may be in the fuel tank and is not serviceable. otherwise could be located near air filter housing or firewall. is the service engine lite on?? if so, that should indicate a direction to go.

Nissan Sentra 2000 model. Thick White smoke coming out of exhaust

Is the car runnig little rough on cold start up in themorning for few seconds?? Because I have done quite a few headgaskets on QG18 Sentra aka 1.8 liter nissan sentra. here is the test. Fill up your overflow bottle to the full mark and check the coolant level in about 5 days.(drive it normally as if nothing is going on) If the level is down, your head gasket is gone. How about the check engine light , is it on?? post results.
