Hi:
your question suggests that this is a new situation. Have you owned this Santa Fe very long?

It isn't uncommon for a 5 year old vehicle to use a quart or so between oil changes, but you seem to think that yours used a lot more than that. A good plan to try is this:

Get a new oil and filter change. Make sure that the proper recomended oil is used . Start a regiment to check your oil every day for the first week, and record the vehicle mileage. After one week, if the vehicle has not used a quart of oil, then you can start checking your oil once a week, and every time you fill the tank, until you have used a quart of oil. Once you have used a quart, fill the engine back up and repeat the process until you have a very good idea of how much oil your car is consuming. Once you do this, then you can talk to a mechanic to see if your vehicle has a bad enough problem to warrant a repair.

An engine shouldn't burn any oil at all. If it is then it has internal problems. In this case there will be a tremendous amount of smoke. If you feel that there is no leak and the oil is disappearing then have a compression test preformed and that will guide your technician to the problem. Hope this helps. Good luck.

No. Either the shop forgot to refill your engine, or they improperly installed the drain plug or drain plug gasket. Also, make sure that the oil filter is the right kind, and also properly installed. It is possible to have a leak without any apparent signs, so make sure to check thouroghly. I hope this helps you out!

2003 Hyundai Santa Fe keeps using up oil, why?

If it's not leaking out, it's leaking in or burning it. Any smoke out of tailpipe? Look under radiator cap, does it look like chocolate milk? If so the head gasket is blown. I would check it really good before you have a catastrophe on your hands. And a really expensive repair bill. Let me know.

HOW TO CHANGE OIL ON A 2002 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. IM 19 YRS OLD AND WOULD LIKE TO HELP MY GIRLFRIEND AND CHANGE IT FOR HER. A DETAILED DRAWING POINTING OUT THE OIL CAP AND THE DRAINAGE AND FILTER FROM...

Lift your Hyundai Santa Fe using a jack and then place the car on jack stands. If you don't have jack stands, drive the car onto a set of wheel ramps.
Pop the hood and remove the dipstick and oil filler cap. The dipstick is near the front engine compartment with the oil filler nearby.
Gather an oil drip pan, a 17-mm wrench, oil filter wrench, cleaning cloths and a new oil filter. Slide under your Santa Fe.

Change the Oil
  • Locate the oil filter and oil drain plug underneath the car. The drain plug is on the bottom of the oil pan, and the filter is to the side of the oil pan.
  • Remove the oil drain plug using the 17mm wrench. Pull the plug out quickly and let the oil drain for 10 to 15 minutes. Check the gaskets and threads for damage. Replace these components, if necessary.
  • Take off the oil filter using an oil filter wrench. Dump the old oil into the oil drip pan and put on the new oil filter. Tighten the oil filter by hand, and then replace the oil drain plug using the wrench. Clean off the excess oil.
  • Go under the hood and add oil. Turn on the engine and check the oil pressure gauge to make sure it rises. Let your Santa Fe run for a minute.
  • Lower your Hyundai Santa Fe and turn off the engine. Take an oil reading on the dipstick. If the oil level isn't at full, add a bit more oil.
