My VW Eurovan,2002 has 2 fault codes. P0011 and

do an online search of obdll codes and also obdll codes [your make of vehicle ] their are also specific codes just for certain vehicle makes

Sounds like you have a bad converters you need to check data stream and see if your down stream 02 sensors are working frist.

A code P0011 refers to the VVT (variable valve timing) or VCT (variable camshaft timing) components and the car's PCM (powertrain control module, also called an ECM). That consists of a few different components but the P0011 DTC specifically refers to the camshaft (cam) timing. In this case, if the cam timing is above a set limit (over-advanced), the engine light will be illluminated and the code will be set. The "A" camshaft is either the intake, left, or front camshaft.

Most likely a P0011 DTC will result in one of the following: hard starting, poor idle, and/or stalling. There are potentially other symptoms as well. Of course, when trouble codes are set, the MIL (malfunction indicator lamp, a.k.a. the check engine light) illuminates.



A P0011 DTC trouble code may be caused by one or more of the following:
Incorrect camshaft timingWiring problems (harness/wiring) in intake timing control valve control solenoid systemContinuous oil flow to VCT piston chamberFailed timing valve control solenoid (stuck open)


This DTC code is a result of a mechanical fault of the VCT unit or related components, so there is no need for electrical diagnosis. The error code definition reads:

"Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1"





It's possible it might be the oxygen sensor, but it's more than likely the catalytic converter. This is a relatively common code for VW's.

You can google "p0420" and see the posts...

First, the check engine light just means you are not meeting emissions right now. Not a big deal. Try disconnecting the battery for 1/2 hour and then reconnect and drive car for 10 miles. It may run rough while it relearns you engine controls again but it often clears the codes.

Now, codes are only 5 digits so I assume the 2 is extra.
P0420 = catalyst efficiency below threshold (bank 1)
P0240 = can't find this code.
