Can you hear the motor trying to run?

It has a separate motor for each function. Could be binding on the track too. try pushing forward while hitting hte switch

Testimonial: "I hit the switch, as suggested, sitting on the seat and simultaneously jerking forward---it started up on the second try! Then got out the grease."

Have someone sit in back seat and push bottom part of seat really hard while you operate switch. The seat movement gear has developed a flat spot from trying to make seat go back further than its limits.

Drivers seat 2000 outback

So here is a diagram of the seat circuitry for your car. Since every other function works except the forward/backward slide function, that leaves basically the forward/backward slide motor, the seat switch, and/or the wiring. If you can verify that the wiring under the seat is in good condition without obstructions, chaffed wires, and/or wires pulled too tight, then it's safe to say it's down to just the motor and/or the switch. Sometimes if the passengers front seat has the same switch, you can plug it in to the drivers' side connector and see what works and what doesn't. If the seat works fine with the other switch, then that's all it needs, if not then it will need a motor. If the other seat doesn't have a switch then you can find them at wrecking yards, or just supply power and ground to the motor in question to see if it works. If it does, then you know you kneed a switch and if not then a motor.
I hope this info helps!~subyguru~

2001 lincoln town car, when trying to move seat, forward or back, it just clicks. almost as if it was slipping, seat move alittle sometimes.

Call an autorecycler and ask them to find you a replacement seat. The doodads which make these car cost more have a short life span. If you want long life, stay with plain jane stuff. You need a new seat motor and a replacement used seat will cost less than a new seat motor and the cost to swap a seat in and out will cost less than the labor to take the seat out repair it and then put it back together.

2002 camry Driver's side power seat all the way forward and won't move backwards. Other power seat functions working fine. Tried moving it with engine off and engine on. Is there a manual release?

I found this post area while looking for a way to fix my stuck 2001 Camry LE drivers seat. Sure enough, while engaging the seat motor (it could be heard making an initial clikc), I hit the front rails a coupel time prettysolidly with a rubber mallet. That fixed it!

Thanks to all for providing a quick fand easy way to get the seat moving again!

The driver side power seat is not working in my 2005 lincoln town car, how do i fix it?

might be as simple as replacing the fuse #601 in the BJB (battery junction box) under the hood

this single fuse controls power to ALL the functions of the seat, up/down, forward/aft, tilt and back rest

additionally, there is only one ground!

if ANY of these work then the fuse and/or ground is not the concern

furthermore, since the seat actually contains 4 separate motors it is quite unlikely all 4 failed

so if the seat will not function in any/all positions then you are most likely dealing with a switch problem!

replace the switch and let me know your results

1997 lincoln town car..pas. seat goes foward but wont go bakwards...any help

Try pushing back as you work the switch forward and backward. The most likely problem is a stuck runner. Remove the two front bolts and the two rear nuts from the seat legs and tilt the seat backwards to clean and lubricate the runners

2003 lincoln town car forward and backward driver seat won't work

The only way to solve this issue is to extract the seat and inspect. The front and back movement is different from the other actions that the seat may be able to do...

Look for damaged, dirty and miss aligned track components.

Driver's side front seat won't move

It is likely the gear on the motor came off track with the seat. The seat will have to be removed and bottom panel disassembled.

The drivers seat is stuck. It won't move forward or backward but all other seat functions work fine. hi and please help..I have the same problem with the driver seat..it will go up and down and the back...

I'm assuming this is a power seat. If so, there are separate motors that control the various functions of the seat such as forward/backard, recline, lumbar support, etc. It could be that the motor or an electrical connection to the motor for the forward/backward motion is faulty. Normally all of the motors would be on the same power circuit, so if some of the functions are working then it is probably not a blown fuse.

Just one other personal observation, I have actually seen an instance where some loose pocket change had spilled under the seat and a quarter had become wedged in the track that the seat slides in and had jammed the tracks so tightly that the seat would not move.

One thing to note is whether or not you hear anything when you try to move the seat forward/backward. If you hear a click or a buzz when you press the button then that could mean that something is physically jamming the seat tracks. If you don't hear anything when you press the button, then that more than likely means a problem with the motor or the electrical connection to the motor.

Passenger seat back will not move either direction

Motor on the seat may have gone out, contacts in switch got dirty or worn, or assembly reached limit and stuck. Try sitting in it pushing back hard and adjust. If not youll need to replace switch,b take seat apart to fix or replace.
