This engine has two sensors, they are located in the side of the block and pick up the crank position from the crank throws. Below is a diagram. Make sure you check the connectors to the sensors for corrosion or fluid infiltration.

hi , do you think if I replace crank sensor will solve the problem ,my jeep .... Where's the crankshaft located in 99 jeep grand Cherokee laredo .
i think it's the starter. On most nissans, the starter and the crank position sensor are close to each other. Some nissans have 4 position sensors, between crank sensor, crank angle sensor, cam position sensor, and sensor sensing sensor, oh and cam angle sensor. Oh wait, maybe it's a bad ground. Nope, gotta be the staerter.
is it a no crank or crank no start?
Possible causes for code P0335
- Faulty crankshaft position sensor
- Crankshaft position sensor harness is open or shorted
- Crankshaft position sensor circuit poor electrical connection
- Signal plate may be damage
- Starter motor may be faulty
- Starting system circuit
- Dead or weak battery
The crankshaft sensor is located just above the the oil filter, which is by the front of the engine, by the firewall. I reached it from underneath the car. There is one bolt holding it in place.
wall5552: there were two engines used in 1992 Jeep Wranglers.
A 2.5 liter and a 4.0 liter. HOWEVER>>>> The location for the crank angle sensor is the same for both.
It is located on the bell housing up near the front at about the 10:00 PM position.
The Cam position sensor is located in the Distributor on both engines as well.
Always by the crank shaft. Probally have to remove a splash sheild on this vehical to see it if you cant reach it from the top.It will be on the right side by the belt pulley
