Re: need to install a door handle for 1998 hyundai
Yes remove the panel, unhook the linkage one for the lock and one for the latch remove linkage from the handle not the latch, then remove blots holding handle then remove handle from outside the door, you will have to swap the lock to the new handle and then install new handle.

We, meaning my husband and me as helper) rather than breaking the interior panel, which a replacement is difficult to find, removed the broken outside door handle, and maneuvered the rod manually, simulating the movements of the door handle. The door opened and we clicked the child lock off and then replaced the exterior handle.
Whats the problem with it? does the door open? if its just simply snapped off then you will need to remove the internal door trim, its quite easy once you have that off you can see the back of the handle should have 2 small nuts/bolts on it remove then and unhook it from the connecting rod, then replace in reverse order.
hope this helps, let me know if you need more info
Look under the round part of the handle, see if there is a small allen screw there,if it is unscrew it until the handle comes off.if not send a new message
if you pull out on the window crank just a little you can see the clip get a skinny flat head and push one end of the clip it will fall on the floor so dont lose it then the crank will slide off you should be able to get it from there
taking off the door panel is a lot of work. i can explain it all to you if you still have the same problem. i've replaced all of my door handles for all 4 of my hyundai's doors, so i'm experienced in this department. would you like a step by step walkthrough still?
remove door panel which is attached by screws, peel away plastic liner and look inside door at back of door handle..using needle nose pliers pop off the small steel rods that are for inside door mechanism, then remove the one bolt that attaches the handle to the inside of door and from outside of door remove handle.Replace in reverse order!
put thin piece of cloth between window crank, twist it around, turn window crank up and down, then pull thin piece of cloth away from the round spinable crank ball (piece you hold) this shud remove interior hidden C clip. try again if you dont succeed. those tools they sell wont fit and will scratch the door panel. I am having probs in removing the door handle and lock mechanism... removed screw, yet still attched. grrrr
