I tried changing a fuel filter on a 2002 saturn vue and the line wouldn't quit leaking? I pulled off the fuel pump relay and let it run out of gas before I started but it still wouldn't stop leaking? What do I have to do to stop the leaking?

Check the fuel pump relay for proper operation.

Possible causes:
Bad fuel pump relay
bad fuel pump
bad fuel filter
clogged fuel line
bad fuel pressure regulator
contaminated gas or gas tank
Throwing parts at this problem could be more expensive than having a shop do it.

still won't crank ? how's your battery ? starter ? starter solonoid ? if your engine does'nt crank , its dead ! would'nt you check the battery first ? then move on with checking the starter circuit ? seems like your putting the cart before the horse ! first of all, when you run out of gas, you need to replace the FUEL FILTER, your engine just sucked the dirt, garbage, etc., out of the tank. there's plenty of sediment in the tank, don't know how it gets there, but, you'd be surprized ! talking threw experience !!! I operate heavy equipment, its a cardinal sin to run out of fuel !!! you say you replaced the inline filter, which one, up by the engine or the main filter, under vehicle along frame ? are we talking about the same animal, PLEASE CLARIFY !

How is it "tripping" ?
The pump gets a signal from the ECM as long as the ECM knows the engine is running.
Is the check engine light on ?

sir have you checked for a bad relay / fuse first before&after replacing the fuel pump ?

Determine which fuel pump your Saturn VUE will need. This depends not only on the make and model, but also the engine size. Models made before 2008 may have a 2.2 L L61, 2.4 L BAS hybrid, 3.0 L L81 or 3.5 L L66 engine. Current models are offered with a 2.4 L LE5, 3.5 L LZ4 and 3.6 L LY7 engine.

Prepare your vehicle for fuel pump servicing. Relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable with a socket wrench. Disconnect the fuel tank.

Disconnect the fuel pump's electrical connector, fuel lines and hoses. Remove the retaining ring for the fuel pump with wrench SA9156E and disconnect the retaining clip by pulling it toward the float arm and lifting up. Lift the fuel pump out of the fuel tank and discard the old fuel tank seal.

Install the new fuel pump using the items included in the kit and be sure to replace the fuel tank seal. Install the lock ring on the fuel pump with tool SA9156E and connect the fuel lines and hoses. Plug in the wiring harness, connect the fuel tank and negative battery cable.

Start your vehicle to check for leaks.

It is part of the fuel pump module inside the fuel tank, all the cars are starting to use this type of setup, the filter is only serviced when the fuel pump fails.

I had exactly the same problem .Mine was corrected with replacing the O2 sensors .The sensors cost less than $30 each but cost about 20 mins labor per sensor .So if you got an honest mechanic the total cost will be around $130 .

you need to locate leak quickly and fix.this is a fire hazard look under hood check for gas leaks around fuel pressure regulator.and fuel lines going to fuel injectors.also go to rear of car under where gas tank located and check fuel lines around fuel tank and fuel filter for leaks.

You have to use a special pair of pliers that have pointed tips on them to reach into the line openings & depress the the 2 green tabs while pushing inward on the line.Once you have them pressed in the line should pull back & disconnect.hope this helps
