Is the check engine light on also? it sounds like the idle air control valve is bad. this controls the idle of the vehicle. when it is stuck open it causes too much air into the engine and causes it to rev. when it gets to a set rpm, the pcm cuts fuel. then it turns the fuel back on, then the engine revs, then it cuts fuel........code p0505 will prob be set

This could be anything from a timing issue (not good nor cheap) clogged injectors or a vacuum leak

SOURCE: 1997 honda odyssey rpms go up and down while in park and trys to stall out when in gear and take foot off gas pedal

The idle speed in your car is controlled by a computer (known as the PCM), the computer controls a valve called the Air Bypass Valve, this valve and the throttle valve get full of sludge from fuel vapors and combustion "blow back", this causes the valve to stick or move slowly, this in turn causes surging (speed goes up and down) in the idle speed of the engine, it is the most common reason for idle surge on any fuel injected gas engine up to about 2004 when car makers starting using electronic throttle control. To clean the idle speed control valve and the throttle valve do the following.
To correct this problem Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (it is made by CRC) from the local auto parts store, NEVER USE CARB CLEANING SPRAY, IT DESTROYS THE ANTI-STICK TEFLON COATING, spray it into the air intake through the throttle body of the engine until you have used about half the can, you will need to hold the idle up while you do this, it will try to stall, after this shut the engine down and disconnect the Negative (-) battery cable for 5 minutes. The intake is now clean, if you continue to have the idle speed control problems you may need to seek the help of a professiona

My 91 honda accord acts like it has a rev limiter at 2500 RPMs. anybody ever hear of that?

I would suggest you change out the fuel filter and then try it, if that doesn't change anything then pressure test the fuel pump to see if it is putting out the correct pressure, low fuel pressure causes this type of symptom

Iac location on my 1999 honda odyssey?after engine warms up-idle runs up and down from 900-2100 rpms.problem occurred instantly.scanned engine P0505.no vaccum leaks.

The IAC is located under the throttle body.

k42282_17.jpg But check the Power Steering Pressure sensor wire first. The wires are known to break at the sensor harness and cause idle problem. if it's broken then repair it first. Look from under car view.

Engine light is on, revs to over 8000 RPM ... check gas cap as instructed by owner guide and said to drive 3 days and it should shut off .. now rev'ing over 8000 RPM

not a good situation! could blow your engine!! take it to a qualified honda dealer, and have them run code check on it- may be 'tps'- throttle position sensor. the code read may cost more than the fix! however, 8k rpms aren't healthy for your engine- so, check and fix may be cheaper than replacing engine! could also be your fuel vapor recovery canister is 'over -loaded', but unlikely!
good luck!

2003 Honda Odyssey that will not come out Park

Yes most likely, the brake switch also sends power to a solenoid to unlock the shift lever. If the trans works fine once you get it out of park, the trans itself is fine

Engine revs up even when parked - Honda Odessey 2002

replace the idle air control valve.(on the bottom of the throttle body) may be easier to remove the throttle body and turn in upside down to remove the idle air control valve and hoses. be sure not to pinch the gasket. after u do that be sure to replace any coolant that may have came out. then, start the car, rev the car to 3000 rpms till the radiator fan comes on , then let the vehicle idle for 20 - 30 mins . the computer should relearn the idle. local honda dealer should have the valve in stock,
