I bought a 1999 montero sport from an individual. The battery was bad and was replaced. The radio is asking for a security code that no one has. How can I get this code. I do have the VIN # available.
Look in the ownes manual, if not look to see if anyone has hidden it in the glove box, a favorite spot, or taped it on the radio, otherwise get all the information on the radio serisl no, production no etc and contact dealership

When you disconnect the car battery you
will disable your car radio, (this is an anti-theft device). The unlock
code is in your Owners manual. If you do not have this code you need to
go to your Mitsubishi service centre to get them to unlock your radio for you.

Radio code is specific for each and every car.
It is specific like anti theft code.
You can get it by providing your VIN# and registration details in
authorized dealership. Nobody else can provide you. If anybody can
provide you that , then there is no meaning of security for your car.
When you disconnect/replace a car battery, your radio anti-theft security system will be triggered: consult your car user manual on how to reset the anti-theft security for your particular radio/audio system: you will need to enter a specific 'security code' that should have been provided when your car or car audio system was bought.
the 4 digit code will be entered using the preset station buttons(1st code digit=1st station button,2nd digit=2nd button),enter all four digits and radio should come on,if after 4th digit radio does not play press cd button on unit-(make sure the display on the radio does not read off-if it does, it is in anti-theft mode
check the manual for a code in it should be 4 to 6 digits if its not in there you will have to ring the manufacteror for the reset code hope that helped thats what my mum did and they told her
