I just bought a 1989 Subaru GL wagon with a turbo. it has 213000 miles and runs like it needs a tune up. I would like to know where to start first to make this little wagon hull ***. thanks

I wont ever buy a car unless i know i can fix it. and depending on the price. if its not running i will never buy a car from someone i dont know for more than 100 bucks depending on condition of car. i dont care how much work has been done.
now on to the question.it can smoke for a number of reasons but the only way to check any real problems is if it runs. could be improper head job, could be turbo seals, but car would run with poor seals. check plugs for oil burning, but these are not very easy to check. subarus are not cheap to fix. so with that good luck.
im not a fan of these due to expensive parts cause its a subaru. unless there is something real special about this car i would walkaway
Do you know if this car has ever been recked? if your going thru that many axels makes me think something is not running true, a wheel bearing would not make a cv joint in a axel go bad. Did you replace the axels? or did you have them done at a shop, and did you see the old axels after they were replaced. You got bigger problems than a wheel bearing. From what i can gather some thing is bent or your getting bunch of bad axels witch i dought.
does the vehicle have an alarm system??? possiblly causing fault, or if the battery is fine, check the main fuse in fuse box located in the engine bay beside the battery,
posible fuel pump, will the car start at all now??? does it crank over and just wont start?? if so.... tap the fuel tank from the drivers side underneath car wth a pece of wood!! not to hard! if it tries to go then its you fuel pump, in some case it will run, if so dont deive it as it could break down at anytime.
