Ck. Engine P0420 & P0430

2002 RAV4 2WD 4 cyl
May 2005, at 45K miles, P0420&P0430 codes appeared. Dealership recalibrated the ECU.

Sept. 2006, at 71K miles, P0420&P0430 codes appeared. Dealership replaced the Catalytic Converter. (under warranty)

Nov. 2008, at 110K miles, P0420&P0430 codes appeared. Catalytic Converter replaced again. (not under warranty)

Feb. 2009, 118K miles, ECU recalibrated again by Dealership. (2nd SSC 601)

May 2009, Toyota paid claim ($1135.95) for my costs of replacing the two Cats.

July 2009, 124K miles, P0420&P0430 codes appeared.

Aug. 2009, 127K miles, reset P0420&P0430 and MAF cleaned.

Sept 2009, 127K miles, P0420&P0430 codes appeared.

Nov.2009, 131K miles, dealership analyzed problem and could find no reason. They contacted Tech Support Cost $89.95

11/17/09, dealership told me car possibly needed ECM replaced, but not sure. They wanted the car for the day with total costs possibly $2000 or more.

I suspect the ECM may have been the problem since initial P0420&P0430 codes appeared in May 2005. Contacted Toyota Customer Support in Calif. Was told they would do nothing more and advised me to buy a new vehicle. Go Figure.

I really need help. These are the only error codes this car has ever had and it runs great. However, it won't pass NC state inspection.

04 Altima 2.5 s w 150k changed cat 2014 1 yr later p0420 code again what r normal reads for 02 sensors? reads @ idle fluctuate @ .3V b1 sensor & .8V b2 sensor.anyone had p0420 that wasnt a bad cat

Those cars are notorious for engine problems unfortunately. The exhaust valves tend to warp from heat after around 200k miles. Therefore throwing the O2 codes. Best outcome and cost effective thing I can recommend is replacing the engine with a new or low mileage engine.

The check engine light and VSC light came on in my 2005 highlander. 168,000 miles

P0420 & P0430 You need new catalytic converter
The P0430 check engine light code, like P0420, means the catalyst system efficiency is below the required threshold. Simply put, this means your car is adding more pollution into the air than it's supposed to.

2008 hyundai accent automatic 117000 miles. check engine light came one and it started losing power to point it would not budge at all. fuel light was on too,. but even after putting gas in it, there was...

Sounds like a ECU problem. The main computer. Take it to a Hyundai dealership and have them check the computer. You don't say how many cylinders if the cylinders are next to each other could have engine or gasket damage

05 Nissan Altima - Hard to crank

I just looked those codes up and the PO420 states that your Catalytic convertor is bad. If the other code was supposed to be PO300 that states multiple cylinder misfires. It's very possible that the misfires ruined the convertor.

I recently had the ck engine light come on my 05 toyota corolla CE...ran the scanner on it to pull up the p0741 code. I took it to dealership and thought might be related to ECM issue , they replaced it...

Yeah Toyota is aware of this situation.Production changes have occurred to correct this condition.
You did the right thing to take it to the the dealership because when they pulled the code p0741 they had to apply the Toyota Technical Service bulletin TC008-04" to your vehicle.
They had to perform several tests and since you said they replaced the ECU for free it was because your vehicle was lower then 5 years old and less then 60,000 miles. This TBS is covered by the powertrain Warranty. They had to replaced the ECU with an updated unit, and that particular warranty is in effect for 96 months or 80,000 miles. Your car should be back on the road running like a champion and you should NOT have the same code again.

Ck engine light on - no code

Check engine light with no codes usually means a PCM reset is happening. EBP shorting, ICP shorting, aftermarket "performance chip". PIDS need to be monitored to eliminate sensors. IDMs (Injector Driver Modules) can also cause this. IDM's are separate from the PCM/ECM (engine computer).

Trouble shooting P0420 code, bank 1, OBD II for 2000'?

misfiring can cause a P0420 code.
I would recommend a set of honda plug wires and plugs if the P0420 code returns.
I have used bolt in aftermarket bolt in catalytic converters but don't remember the brand name they fit ok and i have had 1 or 2 return with a P0420 code out of about 20. I have never replaced the oxygen sensor on a civic like yours.
I always fix the misfire problems, reset the computer, and have the customer drive it and see if the code p0420 returns. 50% don't have the P420 code return. drive it and see what happens and go from there.
