Hi i have a volvo s80 2000, i was driving home from work when i get a message saying the engine is overheating, when i stopped at a garage i checked the coolant "was fine" checked the oil "needed a topup" i topped the engine oil up and i felt the engine. it was cool so i drove another 10 mile home and left it overnight. the next morning i get in and everythings fine then 5 mile down the road i get the same issue . i did ignore it and drove all the way to work only this time the temp gauge was cold despite the message i was getting. i then got out at work and felt the engine. it was no hot i could put my hand on it comfotably. so i see there is coolant getting into the engine as i have checked the pipes and there is plenty oil in now. COULD THIS BE A SENSOR ISSUE PLEASE HELP, ANY IDEA PLEASE EMAIL [email protected]
That sounds like a thermostat. Usually not an expensive problem, but one you want to address soon. Right now, it's convinced that the engine is hot, and is wide open. It could easily flip to thinking that the engine is cold and stick closed. THEN your radiator WILL boil over.

Well My car I changed the head, and the head gasket. The gauge says the engine is overheating, but it is not true, the coolant is perfectly normal and no hose is inflating or whatsoever but the fan is always running.. You can blow your head or head gasket because the sensor is faulty ???!!!! Please I need an answer because I'm using my car for a couple of days even if it says its overheating ( It is not really overheating there probably is a faulty sensor.. ) but i'll stop using it if you can blow you head gasket because of a faulty sensor... !!!
