2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee battery will drain

I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited and have intermittant battery drain problem. Problem started about 2-3 years ago and been to 2 Chrysler Jeep Dealers who cannot find issue. Out of the blue after car sits for a few days the battery will be completely drained (remotes will not open, etc) Jump start and is OK. had it towed dead to the dealer to troubleshoot but they cannot find a solution. We have replaced the battery, alternator and the dealer has flashed the computer system for the U-Connect which I saw a technical service bulletin that we thought could be the issue that it was not disconnecting completely. That seemed to fix the problem for a year but now this weekend after car sat for 2 days was completely dead. There is nothing being left on (no dome lights etc). Would greatly appreciate any thoughts/ideas!!!

Well day 4 of my Jeep being at the dealer and no repair yet...my husband who is a mechanic looked at it himself over the last weekend and traced a 2.5 amp draw to a fuse that would be tied to the Front Control Module. After much fighting with the dealer (who at first said they couldnt find any draw??!!) they did replace this module but now still saying it didnt fix it - back to square one. I dont use the CD player but is interesting comment, I am wondering if something isnt disconnecting properly to the radio, etc?

Day 7 of Jeep at the dealer and they havent resolved it yet. As of Friday they had ordered/replaced the front control module but said that did not fix it (was still drawing amps from the battery when the vehicle is off). Said they ordered another module but will take 2-3 days to get it. Will keep you posted if that is the fix. Sad that I have to keep a booster/jumper box in my back seat because I dont trust that the vehicle will start all the time! The last time we had this issue about 1.5 years ago it drained dead on me about 4 times and I found a technical service bulletin on the internet saying the U-connect (hands free phone system) needs to be flashed because sometimes it does not disconnect fully and will drain the battery. They did flash the system at the dealer then but now the problem is back and doesnt seem related. I think this jeep is an electrical nightmare...

I wanted to let you know I got my Jeep back and they replaced the Front Control Module and the Telematics Module for the U-connect (hands free device). I dont use the U-connect system in the Jeep after my other issues about a year ago that it was not disconnecting and draining the battery so I find it weird that this module was the source of the problems not even being used. At any rate, I'd suggest those having this same battery drain problem to have both of those checked to see if they are drawing the battery when the vehicle is off.

I dont have the other issues that some have posted about the Jeep wanting to stall (thank god) but I did read about this issue on a website I believe was complaints made about the 2005 Jeep to the National Highway Safety Board because several people had an issue that their Jeep would completely die on the highway leaving them to try desperately to steer it off the road. This totally freaked me out and I hope it never happens or that it is not tied in someway with the issues I am having.

Good luck to all, I hope and pray this fixed my problems and will definitely get rid of this vehicle when my extended warranty nears being up!! AND will never again by a Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge product.

Ditto here on a 2005 jeep. We bought it new and found the battery dead on a few mornings the first year. Nothing left on. Did the new alternator thing about 2 yrs. ago and a few batteries along the way. This is what we noticed..... If you leave a CD in the CD player, that is the prime little devil that sucks out the juice. Now, we never turn off the car while a CD is in the dash. Now, maybe not necessary every time, but always overnight and now by habit, all the time, we make sure there is no CD inserted when the car is off. Hope this helps.

Curious, did the dealer find anything yet? I did have a speaker system put into my son's car at a BestBuy last summer and asked him about our CD issue in our car. He said that he has seen such a problem on several occasions. He told me that the whole radio/CD system needs to be replaced when that happens. Knowing that the system is always drawing some juice (clock keeps time, etc.) I am still a little scared of going through this again at some point even tho' we don't leave a CD in which would cause that little laser to keep up with the place in the song when engine is off (something like that). If you find out anything, please post it. We actually bought another 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, used, for a son in college, so any info will be appreciated.

Thanks. Hope your situation if soon fixed if not already.

Another thing....when the battery is going south, the jeep will start to stall. Dangerous, scary, and irritating! This part is especially bothersome -- once, after stalling several times in a week, we had the battery and alternator tested at the same dealer that had put in the new alternator and also a new battery within the past year. All "tested fine." ????? A day or so later, husband went out of town, and had some "wanting to stall issues" at red lights, stop signs, etc. Had to jump it off the next morning at the hotel. Yes, by that time, we had also bought a jump box to keep in the jeep. So, on his way home, I looked online for a dealer near where he was so that he could have the battery checked again. Well, that dealer declared it dead and we got a free battery due to the warranty. He had left a CD in that night and perhaps the night prior. So, that is what led us to see that the CD was a real stinker here. Another issue that we experienced was the jeep seeming to not get enough power from the engine. The dealer's full fuel system cleaning treatment did wonders. It cost a lot more than the Walmart treatment type, but whatever they did to it, it's great. So far, so good, and hoping we won't be dealing with battery issues again.

Ok. I find this a problem with the jeep. I also have a 2005 jeep. The CD player was doing that to mine and the dealership told me it was a bad cd/radio. I had to pay to replace. Now a year later it is happening again. I removed cd's and then I had to stop using autolights. It has died a few times and now is running but unsure when I am going to get stuck. I think this is more than a coincidence and is probably a recall issue. If anyone would like to deal with this issue with me I take my car to MEDVED wheatidge in Denver,CO. Please advise

I have a jeep 05 Cherokee limited v8 hemi battery will drain overnight I have got a new battery then it did it again, I went to a mechanic shop they said it was a bad alternator solenoid and they replace it, laste about two days and have the same problem, well I look inside the CD player and there was a recorded creed cd stuck there, so it was hard to get it out, but we did, I left the car overnight to see I that was the problem, and is been day 1 and car started without a problem I am hopping this. Was the issue I will post again tomorrow to see if that was the problem hopefully it is.

2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE PARASITIC DRAIN

Most drains are caused by door switches or hood switches not turning off lights. It could really be anything. You can either get a meter, pull off your Negative battery cable and put one meter lead on your now off.negative battery cable and negative battery terminal. Set your meter to read dc amps. Start pulling fuses one by one until the meter reads less then .5 amps or 500 mA. If you dont have a meter you can try pulling one every night until you battery no longer drains and narrow it down from there. Anything with power could really be causing this. Alternator and starters are also known for draining batterys while not running.

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Not Starting Intermittently

Check the battery. If it starts to fail it will start doing any conceivable thing including failing to start the car. Have the battery checked with a load tester. A simple voltmeter will not give an account of the requirements needed and the ability of the battery to meet those requirements.
