You smell burning oil. See if there is oil in your spark plug wells or down the exhaust side of the engine. If there is, replace the valve cover gasket. That may be related to the miss if there is a lot of oil on the plugs.
You say the (Check) Engine light is on. Your engine light will flash a code to indicate the problem if you turn the key to the On (just before it starts) and press the gas pedal all the way to the floor five times within five seconds.

Model? year? engine? .......your engine is toasted. inadequate maintenance with the incorrect engine oil. BMW engines use very specific motor oils. The oil light was a BIG sign that there were problems and should have been addressed ASAP.

Try turning the ignition key to on but don't let the engine start. then pump the gas peddle all the way down until it bottoms out three times. this should reset the oil service light.

The oil light does not show that you need oil necessarily. The oil light goes on when the oil pressure is low, not the oil, so it could be a problem with your oil pump or otherwise. Common that it would go on and off, it it were to stay on for very long you'd lose oil pressure and could be in trouble. Have it looked at.

No it's fine as long as it turn's off, if it stay on take it in for services.

did you check the oil ?
-if oil level is low the the oil light will turn On.
-the oil pressure switch loose connection or Bad ,the oil will turn ON.
-Bad oil pump, oil will turn ON.

turn the key to the on possition and hit the gas pedle 3 times then the oil light should flash at you and then turn the key off oil light should be reset

Usually this just means that you are a quart low on oil. Check your oil and if it needs it add it. This should make the light turn off.
