My ford radio constantly displays a "err" message - I have the unlock code but can't enter it - apparently each time a wrong code has been entered a timed lockout kicks in - for each subsequent wrong code the entry lock out time doubles I have waited a month for a chance to enter the code - diconnected the battery - pulled the fuse to the radio - no result - any clues
Yes - there is a solution here.
The problem here is that you must leave continuous power to the radio. Any interruption causes the countdown or wait period to start all over again. The secret is to ensure the key is turned in the ignition to accessories point I or the first point on the ignition that activates power to the radio.
If the key is not turned in the ignition as outlined, the radio will automatically shut off after one hour which is a power saving feature (which is great) but it also has a side effect in this case of shutting off the radio before the time limit has been reached!!
Obviously - as you must leave the key turned in the ignition during the wait period (which may be up to 4 hours) please ensure the vehicle is parked in a safe location and well away from any opportunistic thief.!!
Hope it helps or for anyone reading this in a similar situation - this information applies to many vehicles and radio types as many manufacturers have a similar security feature - not just Ford.
