1995 Toyota fourrunner v6 two over head cams thanks ahead of time I just replaced the heads with new ones properly but have a question before I put the heads on I put the motor on top dead center as I am changing the timing belt as well. When I installed the cams after head assembly, I just put them in where they were not pressing down on any valve so I could properly torque them down with the cam bushing caps. if I now attempt to move the cams to match the crankshaft before installing the timing belt, will a valve contact the cylinder at all or what do I do? have a haynes manual but it does not say anything about this thank you very much

If your valve timming is correct the valve should not contact the piston, and upon fitting the camshaft some valves are bound to get openned. That should not worry you, before you crank start it or after installing the T-Belt and adjusting it, rotate the engine manually 360 degrees to make sure tht it does turn all the way and you can also check if the timming is right by following the valves openning and shutting at different stroke on the cylinders..the firing order should 1-3-4-2.
Hope this helps!

Do I have to use additional sealer on a metal head gasket for a 1995 Toyota tercel 1.5 dohc?

Did you have the head shaved? If not it is warped and will not seal. To answer you no, it is rare that any sealer is used on any gaskets on most engine parts. There are a few places where oil pans meet seals or valve covers with over head cams that do, but most modern engines do not need sealant on quality gaskets unless there is surface damage.
You did not mention if you torqued correctly and use new head bolts. This is considered very important.

verify good spark plugs and correct ignition timing. make sure the engine is getting to correct temp (195f) Has the mileage always been this bad? be sure the cam timing is correct.

1999 ford explorer blown head gasket. is it ok for the head be resurfaced. V6

well experts recommend that, i replaced a head gasket to a 94 toyota 4runner and i did not resurfaced, all i did was a visual inspection of valves springs seats etc,and of course a good clean aruond both surfaces, block and head, if all this looks good, go ahead, goodluck. head bolts must torque to spec. good luck

How to set the cam timing when head is off?

Same way as if the heads on. Both timing marks are straight up and you'll need the hold the cams with a fixture or vise grips on the rough part of the cam to hold them with the marks lined up as they will what to turn off the mark. both cams if on the mark though willwant to turn towards each other just a little bit if you don't hold them. this is a good position to put the head on and as you put the gears and chain onto the cam you can turn the cam the litle bit you need to get it to to line up. Put the intake cam gear on first and it's easier. don't turn the engine till you get it right as you can hit the valves to the pistons real easy on this engine and wherever work to the head you did may have to be redone or the head replaced even. Any guides or tensioner parts that look anywhere near worn out need to be replaced and the tensioner need to be cleaned and retracted or just but a new one or the whole timing kit. sure I've used old parts and got away with it but most of the time I ended up doing the job again inside of a year. If you like the peaple your working for change to new timing parts.

How do i take the heads off of the motor and whats the specks to put a new one back on

I don't recommend that unless you have a full set of tools and a lot pf patience and organizational skills. But here goes. Remove the coolant, drain the oil, disconnect the battery cable. remove the spark plug wires. Remove all cables and wires going to the intake. Remove the air cleaner and hoses connected to it. Remove all heater hoses and raciator hoses. Remove all the vacuum lines, remove the fuel lines, caution they are pressurized and may spray gas into the engine compartment. Remove the serpintene belt and alternator, air pump, and ac compressor. Remove timeing chain cover. Remove timing chain. Note where the timing marks are on the crankshaft and on the cam or cams if you have more than one cam. Remove the intake manifold, remove valve covers. If you have have push rods for the valves remove them. You will have to back off the pressure on the valve lifters to remove most of them. Remove the head bolts and lift the head free of the engine. Keep everything in perfect order. The water pump and timing chain often uses different length bolts that must be put back in the same holes. Also the push rods are supposed to be put back in the exact order as some may have worn more than others. To reinstall just clean all gasket surfaces on the head, engine block, intake and exhaust manifolds, valve covers, timing chain cover, thermostat cover, etc. I would go ahead and replace the timing belt or chain, depending on which engine you have. I would also go ahead and replace the spark plugs and wires too. Once everything is cleaned up, just reverse the order
