Honda Accord 99 EX Antenna Faulty?

I drive a Honda Accord 99 EX. The car radio has static and the head unit has been changed 2 times. Is this car model antenna known to be faulty? Also if I do need to change the antenna what antenna is good and how do I change it?

Well when I play CD's there isn't any static. Only when I listen to the radio there is some static. With my old head unit I had more static than I have now with my new head unit. I am told by the head unit company I shouldn't have any static at all though.... And when I accelerate the static does not worsen so maybe it is not the ignition? Although there is an unknown problem with my stock v tec right now.

I forgot to mention that theres a couple wires from the head unit (one is orange) that cant be connected to any other wires because there is none. So I put tape at the ends of it. Could that be a problem?

I am having the same issue, I recently chnaged my head unit with a new one, and it only got a bit better. I still get much static when I drive around a few parts of my town. When I use another vichle, in those same streets I go through, no static. (and they have aftermarket units.) Currently still searching for a solution, I feel I may need to replace my entire antenna to figure it out, will update if I do find a solution - Edwin

Static won't come from an antenna. It normally comes from your connections. If you've been changing the head, check the contacts where it goes together. The only noise your antenna will pick up, is noise from your ignition. If what you hear is more of a buzzing or clicking that changes as you accelerate, then you should get your ignition checked.

I have a 2003 Honda Civic EX coupe. Installed aftermarket radio cd player and the cd works but the radio does not. The issue is not with the new unit as the previous player's radio would not work either....

If you're getting power to the CD player then there's power
to the radio. The antenna involves the grid on the rear window,
an antenna coil and cable to the radio. You can check the
grid for a break and if it's small you're auto parts store will
have a repair kit. My 05 Accord rear window defogger did
not work and it took Honda 2 attempts to repair it. Other
than checking the grid I would bring it to the dealer.

1998 Honda Accord EX V6 2 Door - Radio Error Code on Display

No-one is ever particularly happy to here this, but this is the way it is; we do have to keep in mind that the original idea of codes on radios was to prevent people who steal them from being able to use them.

So, if an audio unit with theft protection is disconnected from electrical power, you must enter a unique code number into the unit or it will not work. This code and the audio unit’s serial number are listed on the anti-theft ID card that comes with the vehicle. If this card is lost, you must obtain the audio unit serial number in order to get the radio code (some people say that they have found the code on a sticker inside the glove compartment, but I wouldn’t count on that). Some newer vehicles allow you to retrieve the audio unit serial number electronically from the radio. Refer to your owner’s manual for the specific procedure (the following usually will work: Turn the radio off. Push the preset 1, preset 6, and power buttons at the same time, then quickly release. The serial number will come up in two sets of numbers.)
Some older vehicles (model year 2003 and older) require a visit to the dealer in order to retrieve the audio unit serial number (or you can remove the unit and get the serial number from the back of the radio). Once you have the audio unit serial number, you can call Auto Customer Service at (800) 999-1009 or have the dealer look up the radio code.

Here is the URL for the Honda Owner page. If you register (no charge) you are able to get radio codes using the VIN number of your car, the serial number of your radio, and the
Phone Number and Zip Code that you give them when you register.

Hope this helps you with the process.

I disconnected some power sources to my 99 accord ex v6 coupe to repair a problem and my radio is asking for a code

Check your documentation that came with the car. Sometimes there will be a separate manual for the radio with a sticker that has your unique code. If you don't have that, you will need to call the dealer prepared with your VIN. They should keep the code on file, but your car is 10 years old... they may not keep them on file that long. If you can't find the code, I'm afraid it's a lost cause.... You'll need to replace the head unit.

TURN ON THE REAR DEFROST AND THE RADIO GOES TO STATIC. 2006 HONDA ACCORD EX-L

The radio antenna is shared by the rear defroster, there is a part called the "Antenna Amplifier-Rear Window Defogger Coil", it is behind the left side rear pillar trim. It prevents the static from happening.
