Dome light won't come on when door is opened (switch in center or 2 position). Dome light does work when switch pushed to position 1.

Hi, have you checked the switch at the dome light, the switch usually has 3 positions, 1 for off, 2 for on when a door is open and 3 for on all the time, just move the switch to the appropriate position.
Another thing to check is the door switches, located in the door frame where the door will close against them (usually covered by a rubber grommet in modern vehicles) open one door at a time and try pushing the switch making sure it moves freely in and out and check if the light goes out when pressed right in, if you find a faulty door switch it will need to be replaced.

there are at least 3; 1 is using the dash light switch-turn all the way up;2 that show 4 lights on it-push it and it will turn them off-push it again and it will turn them on; three push on one end or the other end of the actual light.

dome light switches normally 3 position switches 1 position is light on door open 2 position is no light door open and no light in car 3 position is light on in car but not with door open.

1) Remove the key from the ignition. Make sure the doors are closed, so the new bulb does not illuminate when you are installing it.

2) Make sure the dome light switch is turned to the "Off" position. Pry the plastic lens away from the dome light. Use a small, flat-head screwdriver.

3) Push back the side bulb clamp. Pull out the old dome lightbulb. Wipe the area with a paper towel if it is dirty.

4) Wrap the new bulb in a paper towel (oil from your skin will shorten its life). Insert it into the dome lightbulb holder. Push it up gently to secure it.

5) Turn the switch to "On" to test the bulb. Reposition the cover and push up to lock the clips into place.

If the bulb doesn't work, you've got a bad switch somewhere, probably on the drivers door.

The dome lamp has a switch that can be put into several positions. "Door" "Off" and "On" If you want the light to come on when you open the door then you must have the switch in the "Door" position.
The "Off" position will only let the dome lamp work when you override it with the dash control and the "On" position will leave the light on at all times - door open or not.

The dome light has a 3 way switch.
1. On all the time
2. On when Door Open
3. Off.

O = on all the timer
O (solid/filled in) = OFF

The middle position is tricky to find the right spot.

Sit with the door open and play with the switch to try and find the center "sweet spot"

If it never finds that spot - the switch is likely bad. (assuming the fuse is good)

its built into the door latch

Been having a problem with the dome lights on a 99 chevy blazer. Still can't figure out what the problem is. There is a dome light overide button located under the dimmer wheel. When I push the overide button in the dome light goes off, but when I open any of the doors the dome light will not come on. When the overide button is out the dome light stays on all the time and will not turn off even though every door is closed. I checked all the pushbuttons and everything tests good. Has anyone had this problem and know how to fix it?

turn the key on then push in on the plungers, also twist and turn them. with the key off the light is on a timer and will not go off right away. if the key is on the light should go on and off with plunger movment.
