I reset the oil change light in my 2004 Alero, but the chimes and light won't go away.

Depress the accelerator pedal fully three times within five seconds. Allow the pedal to release fully after each pump. Listen for a chime, indicating the procedure is successful. The "Change Oil" light will turn off.. With the ignition key in ON, press the RESET
button located in the driver's side instrument panel
fuse block. See "Instrument Panel Fuse Block" in
the Index.
2. When the CHANGE OIL light starts to flash, press
and hold the RESET button again.
The reset is complete when you hear the chimes
sound and the CHANGE OIL light goes out.

As I remember, the first button press(s) step through lighting the change oil light, the tire pressure light and no light on the dash. Stop pressing while the change oil light is lit and then press and hold until the chimes.

How do u reset oil light after changing oil

Hello Jw.
  1. Turn the ignition to ON, with the engine off.
  2. Fully press and release the accelerator pedal slowly three times within five seconds. The reset is complete when you hear the chimes and the CHANGE OIL light goes out. However, if the light stays on and no chime is heard, you will need to repeat the reset procedure.
  3. Turn the key to OFF. If the CHANGE OIL light comes back on when you start your vehicle, the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.
There you are, thank you for using FixYa.
