Also note, in these cars they use AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID for their power steering system, so don't be alarmed at the colour.

Open the hood look carefully for the power steering reservoir, there will be a small lid on it you remove that and it has a little dipstick on it or you will see a level indicator on the bottle telling you how much is in there

Make sure you check your power steering fluid... if it's even low, it will make a terrible noise...run it on empty too long and your can ruin your power steering pump.

SOURCE: 2003 BMW 325I Power Steering

when looking at the engine with the hood up, look to the right hand side for something that looks like this (#1 in the pic): http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=ET37&mospid=47720&btnr=32_0957&hg=32&fg=20

it will be black in color, but don't confuse it with the oil filter housing. power steering reservoir will have a unique cap (#2 in the pic) that can be removed with your hand. the one that has the large nut on top is the oil filter. remove the cap and put in the correct fluid.

hope this helped.

SOURCE: BMW 325i BAD transmission fluid leak/gush

i have to admit without more detail it's hard to say.... my educated guess would be that one of the hoses to the transmission cooler has blow and needs to be replaced. do NOT drive the car till that is done.

SOURCE: Which ATF fluid for BMW 2001 330Ci power steering?

Dexron III ATF is what BMW called for in the power steering pump in these models. However, GM no longer makes a type-III ATF!

Nice thing about GM Dexron specifications is that any higher numbered fluid meets the requirements of previous, lower numbered fluids. What does this mean? Siphon out as much as the old junk as you can. Refill with Dexron III and if you cannot find that? A common on the shelf *upgraded* synthetic fluid can be found in Dexron VI that more than adequately surpasses previous Dex-III specifications. So use with confidence! Pour and forget...

What type of power steering fluid and the capicity does bmw 545i 2004

Most BMWs have a dip stick in the reservoir cap to measure the fluid level of the power steering fluid. We use Agip power steering fluid. There are generally just two types, standard Dextrn/ATF and Power steering fluid. Unless the cap or manual states otherwise, then just put power steering fluid in it.

My 2001 bmw 325 cic started making an awful grinding noise today when moving the steering wheel at all to the left or right. Can also hear the noise under the hood.

It sounds like your car is low on power steering fluid. When the power steering fluid is low, the power steering pump is running dry, which makes a grinding or moaning sound. Check the power steering fluid level and top up if necessary. It should be on the left side of the engine compartment. Your owners manual should have the exact location of the power steering reservoir, and what type of power steering fluid to use.
Good luck

I have a 1993 BMW 318i. It makes a loud grinding/rasping noise, which I can feel in the steering wheel, when I turn to the right of left. Although the car has power steering it is also very unresponsive/...

Replace power steering rack and power steering pump. But first check fluid level. No fluid in reservoir can mimick same problem. Take off air box to adequately see level.

Noisy power steering at start up

check power steering fluid level. It might be a little low when its cold. Just top it off (with bmw recommended ps fluid from a dealership!) that will usually take care of the noise at start up.

How do i change the power steering fluid

I prefer to remove the fluid with a suction gun, do this 3 or 4 times running the engine between sucking out the fluid and refilling until the fluid is clear, ps fluid is cheap and this takes about two bottles in most cases..

What kind of power steering fluid is used for BMW

The cap to your power steering reservoir should either say ATF or CHF11s. If it is ATF you can use Dexron automatic transmission fluid. If it is CHF11s the dealer is the only place I know that sells it. There should be level marks on the cap stick.
