I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am and the interior stay on

I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am and the nterior lights stay on for approx. 20 minutes after car is off and doors are shut. Is there a sensor in the door that tells the car the door is shut and where is that sensor located? There is no button or switch on the frame like on older vehicles.

    Door Jamb Switch Replacement
    Removal Procedure
The door jamb switch assemblies consist of the following components:

    • Plunger

    • Collar

    • Threaded retainer

    • Terminals

The components are installed in the rear door hinge pillars. The plunger is depressed which creates an open in the ground circuit when the door is closed. The plunger is released and completes the circuit to the ground when the door is opened. When a new jamb switch is installed and the door is closed the first time, the plunger is forced into the sleeve and automatically adjust the jamb switch for that particular door. If a jamb switch fails, do not readjust the switch. Install a new jamb switch.

Interior Lights Circuit Description
By using a feature called inadvertent power control, the body control module (BCM) supplies power to all of the following components:
• The courtesy lamps
• The dome lamps
• The rear view mirror reading lamps
• The instrument panel compartment lamp
• The rear compartment lamp
The left front door ajar switch turns the interior lamps on through the BCM by grounding CKT 394. When the left front door is open, the switch is closed. This condition provides a ground and a door open input to the BCM. The BCM then grounds the following lamps through CKT 156 in order to turn the lamps on:
• The courtesy lamps
• The dome lamp
• The rearview mirror lamps
The right front door ajar switch and the rear door ajar switches turn the interior lamps on by grounding CKT 395 from the BCM.
When the ignition key is removed from the lock cylinder, the interior lamps remain on for approximately 40 seconds.
The BCM provides an interior lamps-on delay after a door is opened. The lamps remain on for approximately 40 seconds or until the ignition switch is turned to the ON position. The 40 second lamps-on delay reduces to 4 seconds if a door is opened within 2 minutes of the ignition switch being moved from the ON position. The interior lamps immediately turn off when the vehicle begins to move.
The dome lamp OFF-DOOR-ON switch controls the dome lamp. When the switch is in the OFF position, the dome lamp remains off. When the switch is in the DOOR position, the dome lamp lights when a door is opened by the BCM grounding CKT 156. When the switch is in the ON position, ground is supplied through CKT 750. The rear view mirror reading lamps are controlled by the rear view mirror reading lamps switch or through CKT 156 from the BCM.
Voltage is supplied at all times to the BCM through the INT LPS fuse. The BCM supplies voltage to the interior lamps through CKT 1732.

Battery Run Down Protection
When the ignition switch is in the OFF position, the BCM turns off the power to all of the interior lamps after 18-22 minutes.
The BCM will reset the inadvertent power control relay output when one of the following actions is performed:
• Open or close a door.
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
• Turn off any interior lamps that may be on.
• Press the power door lock switch/keyfob button.
• Press the decklid release keyfob button.

Interior lights will not go off when locking the car

Seems from just a little research that this is a major problem with several years of jeeps having the same issues. Most responses i seen point to an electrical problem with the PCI Bus.
A quick fix in which I have seen several positive responses, is to disconnect the negative cable from battery and leave disconnected for approx. 10 minutes then reconnect.
Hopefully this will give you at least some short term relief.

2000 pont. g/p int. start/stall. replaced theft module twice,comp., ig.swicht,keys,P1629

THIS SYSTEM REQUIRES A REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE AFTER COMPONENT REPLACEMENT. THERE IS A MANUAL RELEARN YOU CAN TRY BEFORE HAVING TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER FOR REPROGRAMMING. THE RELEARN IS AS FOLLOWS: DIS-CONNECT BATTERY FOR 5 MINUTES. RECONNECT BATTERY,TURN KEY ON BUT DO NOT START!! WAIT APPROX. 20 MINUTES OR WAIT UNTIL THEFT LIGHT GOES OFF. TURN KEY TO OFF FOR 5 SECONDS THEN ATTEMPT TO START. IF IT STILL WONT START LEAVE KEY IN RUN POSITION FOR AN ADDITIONAL 20 MINUTES OR UNTIL THEFT LIGHT GOES OUT THEN ATTEMPT START AGAIN. MAKE SURE BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGED!!! IF THIS DOESNT WORK IT WILL HAVE TO GO TO DEALERSHIP FOR REPROGRAMMING WITH TECH 2 SCANNER.

Interior lights won't go off.

Have you checked the adjustable intensity switch for your dash lights? If it is turned all the way up it usually will "click" and turn all the interior lamps on.

Another possibility is that one of the door switches is bad.
