How to replace a fuel pump in a '97 Accord Coupe?

You probably will want to think seriously about changing the fuel pump yourself. It is in the fuel tank, which has to be removed from the vehicle in order to replace the fuel pump. I would make very sure I needed a fuel pump replacement before undertaking the job. If you have someone listen at your filler cap when you turn the key to ON II (without starting the car) if they hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds, that would at least indicate that the fuel pump is working. How well it is working is another question. Nevertheless, the following is the procedure for replacement:
Detach the negative battery cable (if you have an anti-theft radio, make sure you have the code)
Relieve the fuel pressure (take off gas cap. Loosen service bolt at right hand end (facing car) of the fuel rail; remember to re-tighten)
Remove fuel tank. (not an easy job. Involves removing the rear seat, connections to the fuel sending unit, disconnecting the fuel filler, removing splash panels, fuel supply hoses, and tank retaining straps).
Remove the retaining nuts from the fuel pump cover.
Disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel pump and detach the fuel lines.
Remove the pump from the tank.
Remove the nut and detach the electrical connector from the terminal.
Squeeze the hose clamps with pliers and move the upper clamp off the hose and the lower clamp halfway up the hose, off the fuel pump outlet.
Separate the fuel pump from the fuel pump bracket.
Remove the sock filter from the end of the pump.
Installation is reverse. Make sure you use new gaskets.
